Recent arrival sets his stall out for success with City...

THERE was a new face in the City line-up for last weekend’s victory at League leaders, Coleshill Town, after Bekir Halil turned down the advances of a club from the Evo-Stik Premier to join our charge for promotion.
The versatile Halil, who has plenty of experience at this level, joined City from Hinckley AFC where he was a popular figure.
“I am really pleased to have joined such a big club in the non-League game,” he said. “I was enjoying my time at Hinckley but when the opportunity came up to come here, it was too good to turn down.
“There’s a real chance to get this club moving again and having spoken to the Gaffers, I like what they had to say about the future.
“It’s going to be an exciting run-in to the end of the season with four or five teams still in with a real shout of taking the title. Last weekend’s result will have sent out a message to the rest of the League and now we have to follow it up with another three points on Saturday.
“It was nip-and-tuck last weekend; both teams were cautious and there wasn’t much in it at all.
“We needed those three points having let a two-goal lead slip at AFC Wulfrunians in our previous game. I watched that one and couldn’t believe we didn’t win it.
“You tend to find that teams will raise their game against us because we are still a big name in local football circles, but we have the quality here to be able to cope with that.”
So, what qualities does the former Sporting Khalsa man feel that he will bring to the team?
“I will always work hard and have plenty of energy,” he added. “I can play in a number of different positions and like to create things.
“I’m still getting back to full fitness and when I do I feel that I will be able to really add something to the team.
“I’d not kicked a ball since the start of January before last weekend’s game. I did an hour and felt good, it’s all about getting minutes under my belt.
“It’s going to be an exciting run-in to the end of the season and I can’t wait to be part of it. Every game is a big one and Saturday will be no different against a Coventry United side who have quality in their side.
“We know that we have to be at it and ready for the challenge that they will present to us.
“I’m not one to set individual targets for myself. It’s a team game and I just want to play my part in helping the team win things and progress. A big part in my decision to come here was how much potential this club has.”
