Worcester City v Curzon Ashton - Saturday 12th September 3pm Kick Off

City face Curzon Ashton for the first time tomorrow (Saturday) at Aggborough, 3pm Kick Off.

City go into the game on the back of a 0-0 draw at Stockport County last week, which ended a run of four losses. Sean Geddes will be back in the squad after missing the Stockport trip through suspension as will Ashley Vincent who was sent off during City's only win of the season so far v Lowestoft Town.

Lee Hughes makes his home debut after impressing in the draw at Stockport. City joint manager Carl Heeley said, "Lee's work rate at Stockport was exceptional. His experience was invaluable and he lifted the rest of the team. To be chasing the opposition down in the 85th minute was fantastic"

Another player to impress the management was Tom Sharpe who put in a stirling performance to help City keep a clean sheet for the first time this season, Matt Gardiner added, "The Hednesford game was a tough start, dropping in when things were not going too well, but last week was a different proposition. We looked solid and everyone did their job with Tom at the heart of the defence".

Curzon Ashton is another Manchester side in the Conference North just minutes away from FC United & Staybridge Celtic as well as Ashton United (who City have played in the past in the Blue Square North) just a mile away playing in the Evostick Premier & Droylsden a couple of miles to the west (now playing in the Evostick 1st Division North).

They have started the season with One win, four draws and three losses in their opening eight games and are three places above City on seven points from their eight games.

Matthew Warburton is the top goalscorer with four so far, including the winner against Nuneaton Town in their last outing.

After residing at National Park for 20 years, Curzon moved to the £4 million Tameside Stadium at the beginning of the 2005–06 season.

In 2007 they were promoted to the Northern Premier League as runners up to FC United of Manchester.

In the 2008–09 season, Curzon reached the first round proper of the FA Cup for the first time, where they defeated League Two side Exeter City 3–2. They went on to lose 2–0 at Aggborough to Kidderminster Harriers in the second round. Also, for the second season in a row, they reached the end-of-season play-offs. In the semi-final, Curzon beat Skelmersdale United, before losing to Newcastle Blue Star in the final.

Following Gary Lowe's move across Tameside to neighbours Hyde, John Flanagan took charge of the club in the summer of 2011.[5] In his first season at the helm, he guided Curzon to a second placed finish, the highest in the club's history, before losing a play-off final to Witton Albion.

The 2012–13 season saw The Nash reach the Northern Premier League Challenge Cup final where they narrowly lost on penalties to North Ferriby United. The 2013–14 season saw Curzon win a league championship for the first time in 36 years. They finished the season with 99 points, losing just five games throughout the campaign and gained promotion to the NPL Premier Division. The following season the team won the play-offs, beating Ilkeston in the final, in order to gain consecutive promotions to the National League North.
