Club employee climbs for Charity

Club employee, Mark Pollard was recently among a group of professionals who attempted the National Three Peaks Challenge for charity.

Mark Pollard, Deputy Safety Officer at the Club and headteacher of Bishop Perowne CE College, joined nine other men aiming to conquer the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales in just 24 hours on Saturday, June 24.

Participants were required to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, which have a combined height of 3,407 meters and an estimated walking distance of 27 miles.

The team included two headteachers, a deputy headteacher, a doctor, businessmen and an ex-professional cricketer.

The group is aiming to raise £15,000 to be shared between Parkinson’s UK, The Mary Stevens Hospice, Sunfield Children’s Home, Cancer Research UK and the Rory the Robot Appeal, launched by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust to fund specialist equipment to treat prostate cancer, which is above the current NHS provision.

On completeting the challenge Mark said: "Ben Nevis was cold and wet but managed in a good time of 4 hours and 55 minutes our second climb was also completed in a good time, the final climb at Snowdon was the biggest challenge and it hurt...alot !. This has been one of the most challenging and physically hard things I have ever done, but its for a number of very good causes and I am very pleased to have put my name forward".
