City welcome local rivals
Match report by Daren Mills
Today we welcomed our old foes Stourbridge on a cold and wet morning.
1st half - Worcester were quickly into their stride and enjoyed most of the possession in the early stages of the game. It was no surprise when Worcester took the lead from an Olly Berry corner which was powerfully headed home at the back post by Joshua Shuck. Within minutes Worcester were two ahead following a fine move with good interplay between Tom Mills and Finn Syson which saw Tom burst into the penalty area and calmly slot the ball into the corner of the net. To their credit Stourbridge continued to battle although found it hard to get a foothold in the game and the game became a little disjointed as the half wore on. Shortly before half time Worcester got a third when Cam Montieth put a great ball through to Matty Patrick Rivers. Matty’s initial effort was well saved but the ball fell kindly to Matty who made no mistake from the follow up with a curling shot into the corner of the net. 3-0
2nd half - The second half saw Stourbridge in the ascendancy. Having said that, Worcester did not look overly troubled by Stourbridge with Zach Bowater excellently marshalling the defence. Midway through the second half, Stourbridge did reduce the deficit when a Worcester defender unfortunately sliced the ball into his own net, but any hope of a fight back was killed off with a Stourbridge own goal from another Olly Berry corner. The victory was sealed shortly before the full time whistle when the ball was swung into the penalty area from a wide position from Matty Patrick Rivers, there was an unfortunate collision between the Stourbridge defender and goalkeeper which saw the ball fall kindly to Olly Berry who smashed the ball into the empty net. 5-1
