Worcester Fall at the Semi Final Hurdle

Report by South Glos Manager

The eagerly anticipated U15s Semi Final day between South Glos and Worcester was finally upon us. The neutral venue was the Beversbrook Sports Centre in Calne, Wiltshire with its excellent facilities. It was a beautifully sunny day with the pitches in great condition and near perfect but for an unpredictable cross wind. Both teams observed a minutes silence before kick off in remembrance of Logan Kehoe the Birmingham City U13's Player who tragically lost his life recently. This was followed by the respect handshake of both teams and coaches. Todays match officials were Referee, Mitchell Terry and his two Assistants Matt and James Bartlett. 1st Half Play got under way and was a little edgy while both teams tried to settle into their patterns of play. It was important to get the ball on the ground today with the wind and both teams tried to play good passing football although with some excellent closing down from both teams made this hard to achieve in the initial stages. Good play from Worcester down the right forced a corner within the first 2mins but nothing came from it. On 9mins South Glos defender Charlie Saunders intercepted a ball meant for a Worcester striker, controlled the ball well and continued his run into midfield before releasing an excellent through ball to Striker Emmanuel Ali who continued his run into the box and slotted the ball into the bottom left of the goal to make it 1 Nil to South Glos. Both teams started to settle on the ball and get their passing games together with a number of Corners and Free kicksd but no clear chances at either end. 2nd Half With the wind now slightly in Worcester's favour the game continued a pace. On 9mins Good dribbling work down the left from South Glos Richard Yorath resulted in a free kick being awarded when he was fouled. South Glos's Will Donaldson whipped in a great free kick right into the danger area and Dan Payne converted to make it 2 Nil to South Glos. South Glos were now in the ascendancy and playing some excellent passing football. on 35mins a great break away following a worcester corner saw South Glos Jacob Wood take the ball the length of the pitch and put an excellent ball behind the Worcester defence to Dan Payne who powered on into the Worcester penalty area only to be tripped and a penalty awarded. South Glos Richard Yorath stepped up and put the penalty away into the bottom left of the worcester goal to make it 3 Nil to South Glos. On 37mins a good break from Worcester down the left resulted in a 1-1 with the South Glos Goalie Dan James who bravely cleared the danger but got injured in the process with a bruised ankle. With no further chances the Referee blew the final whistle and the game finished South Glos 3 Worcester 0. South Glos would like to thank Worcester for the game today and wish them all the best for the rest of the season. South Glos would like to thank the officials for managing and controlling the game well today. Finally South Glos would like to thank all the parents/supporters for their support today and assistance throughout the season and hope to see as many of you as possible at the Cup Final at Cheltenham Town FC on Saturday the 9th May 2015.
