City U16s match report against Kettering Town
A tight 4-3 puts city out the cup
Worcester City welcomed Kettering Town to a cloudy drizzly Claines Lane, Worcester. The pitches were freshly rolled and cut on Thursday evening so was perfect for a passing game. Both teams arrived on time and got on with their warm ups.
Game kicked off and possession was dominated by Worcester but while build up was good it was flat and lacked tempo. Complacency comes to mind. Individual errors in the middle third cost Worcester the first goal. 0-1. This kicked started the home team and they got their equaliser but it was more of the same that allowed Kettering to get in again. Sometimes we just have to clear our lines in initial red zones 2&4. The home team then went thru after some amazing footwork from the wide player but the Gk won the 1v1 there. The game then turned when Kettering hit a long ball in a dangerous area and moved 3-1 up. A questionable decision at the edge of the area gave the visitors to put away a wonderful free kick to make it 4-1. At this point Worcester had to throw on a couple of subs that they'd prefer to have given a rest to with Wednesdays u18's game coming up. The result of this was 2 goals in 10 mins but it wasn't enough. Worcester played the better football but Kettering were strong, resilient and worked so hard for each other. They got exactly what they deserved. A victory. Good luck in the next round lads. As for Worcester, maybe a wake up call that they needed. We don't have the divine right to win all games. Wins are earned!
