Convincing win for City u16s
Hatrick for Brett keeps Worcester top
Worcester City welcomed our neighbours Gloucester City to a cold but sunny Claines Lane. Management arrived early enough to enjoy a nice chat and a general catch up.
Both teams warmed up, shook hands and away we went. Worcester dominated possession from the off but the speed of pass was a bit slow following an extremely hard midweek game against Rugby Town.
Although Gloucester City worked very hard the Worcester City passing started to get sharper and quicker as the minutes went by. It was 3-0 at half time but could have been more if it wasn't for the unbelievable positioning and lightning reactions of the Gloucester first half keeper. He truly did make an impact... off his line very quickly, covering angles excellently, and good shot stopping.
Second half of the game and Worcester changed to a 3-4-3. Tried to play with a more advanced double pivot to allow both to make forward runs into the box. Seemed to work well but needs a lot of work on the training ground to get this right. Maybe 1 for next year. But like I always say, it's not really the formation that matters but the formula. The style. The 'philosophy'. A word that is thrown around quite a lot in the modern game. One thing is for sure... win , lose or draw... Worcester City will always stick to their style or 'philosophy '. Technique first. Attractive football, and winning should only be a result of playing well.
The final score was 9-1 today but the Gloucester boys worked until the very end and as I said it was nice to meet the management and some of the parents today.
Good luck going forward guys.
