Hughes urges team to stay focused as we look to extend unbeaten run...

CITY extended our unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions with a convincing 5-1 victory over Coventry Sphinx on Tuesday evening as joint-manager, Lee Hughes, heaped praise upon the focus of his players.

Our opponents were intent on disrupting our flow with a robust approach that saw both Jamie Smith and new skipper, Brad Birch, pick up knocks to join Hughes himself on the treatment table and there is a question mark over the trio’s participation in Saturday’s trip to Shawbury United (kick-off 3.00pm).

“We knew what to expect from them,” admitted Hughes. “There were little niggles going on throughout the game, but credit to our lads because they stayed focused on the task in hand and got the job done.

“It was a good performance. We let our football do the talking and whilst we were disappointed with the goal that we conceded, it was a convincing win in the end.
“I felt that we moved the ball quickly and there were some good passages of play and some good goals.

“We have to take this into the next game at Shawbury United now. They haven’t made the best of starts to the season, but we have to approach it in the right way.
“It’s all about us going there with the attitude to roll our sleeves up and work hard. If we can do that, we have enough quality to win the game.”

Shawbury United have won just one of their nine League games so far this season and slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Long Eaton in their last game.
Our five-goal haul on Tuesday evening means that we have now notched an impressive 32 goals in our opening ten League games in the Total Motion Midland Football League Premier Division.

We urge as many of you as possible to come along and cheer us on! Shawbury United play at the home of Ludlow Town FC in Bromfield Road, Ludlow SY8 2BN.
