Worcester U13's welcomed Soccer Schools to the City
11 Goals makes for interesting reading
Worcester City U13 welcomed Soccer Schools in what was sure to be an exciting top of the table clash.
First quarter - Strong start by SS who had good possession in the early part of the quarter. Worcester City created the first chance on goal though as Hobbo released Sam who’s driven shot was straight at the keeper. Plenty of midfield possession by both teams as each team searched for a way through the opposing defences. WCFC attacked down the right hand side with Sam who crosses to Scott 10 yards out of goal, his excellent first touch sets him to fire a postage stamp finish into the top corner, 1-0 WCFC!
Both teams continue to work hard to create chances in the centre of the pitch with a high press being used by WCFC to pressure SS and limit their time on the ball. This time Sam quickly closes down the SS goalkeeper on the edge of the area, he makes a short pass to the side which again Sam chases down, this time he blocks the pass then coolly lobs the ball into the back of the net, 2-0 WCFC!
2nd quarter – An energetic start to the second quarter by WCFC leads to lots of play being in the SS half of the pitch as they struggle to contend with WCFC pressing the ball every time SS gain control. Harry W uses his pace to release Ethan who drives forward to the edge of the area before shooting low into corner, but his shot is saved well by the keeper. More good build up play from the middle across to the right hand side between Sam, Harry W, Ethan & Tussy creates a good chance that is cleared following a solid defending by SS.
WCFC stick to their tactic of defending high up the pitch and force the goalie to twist & turn on the edge of the area before one Cruyff turn to many leads to him hastily clearing the ball, Ethan wastes no time passing the ball to Harry W, who’s cross found Joe at the far post make it 3-0 WCFC!
Chances in the remainder of the quarter start to dry up as the pace of the games appears to slow down slightly. Following a foul on the right hand side of the pitch SS launch the ball into the area and the WCFC defence allow it to bounce, both teams don’t attack the ball and with everyone standing still it hits the post, bounces back into the area with Harry E reacting first to clear the ball. Moments later another good chance to SS right in front of the goal following a foul on the edge of the area, up stepped their Kieran Day who’s shot flashes just over the bar.
3rd quarter – Another strong start from WCFC places pressure on the SS defence right from the whistle. Good passing play from right-to-left from WCFC involving Ethan, Charlie, Scott & Jack results in a chance for Scott who shoots, however his shot is saved well by the keeper. Soon after Harry W sprints down the right wing beating his defender, he coolly looks up to find Ethan unmarked who shoots to make it 4-0.
This seemed to lead to a reaction from SS who started to looked more determined to impose their strong passing game on WCFC. Following a good spell of possession SS played the ball into WCFC penalty area who only partially cleared the ball, Ryan Jones controlled it first time and ran at the WCFC defence up to the edge of the area and before anyone could get a catch him he slotted the ball in off the post, 4-1!
More pressure soon followed by SS who sensed they still had a chance in the game. This time a cross into the box caused confusion and with legs flying in from both teams the ref pointed to the spot for a penalty. Up stepped Kieran Day with a good finish to make it 4-2!
Soccer School now looked set for more goals, however WCFC were not in the mood to give up top spot easily and on the counter they broke at pace with Harry W playing in Ethan down the right who crossed early leading to a defender putting the intercepted pass into the back of the net, 5-2! WCFC
With both teams going for goals the game became more open with a number of half chances at both ends not being taken. Excellent combination play down the right from WCFC between Josh and Harry W released Ethan who side stepped his defender before neatly lining up Charlie who made it 6-2! WCFC
4th quarter – With both putting everything into the game the it was clear the fitness levels of both teams was fantastic as the game continued to be end to end. WCFC best move of the game came this quarter as Ethan, Harry, Hobbo & Scott combined with several well worked triangles to cross the ball for Charlie who put the ball in the net, unfortunately he was adjudged to of crept just offside as it would have been a lovely goal. WCFC attacked again with Hobbo playing a delicate chipped ball over the defence for Ethan to chase, the goalie was quick off his line and with both players challenging Ethan came out the winner and placed the ball into the empty net, 7-2 WCFC
Good work on the right hand side from SS leads to a teasing cross which the WCFC keeper came to collect, however the ball slipped out of his hands and Harri Dawson pounced on the loose ball, 7-3!
Continuing pressure from SS forced a corner which Harry E cleared, he then got to his clearance before everyone and ran the length of the pitch with the ball before setting up Harry W who make a difficult finish look easy with a fine goal into the roof of the net 8-3!
SS still kept creating and in the final moments of the game they attacked down the right side and from point blank range Archie somehow managed to save the shot from Freddie Kennedy and the game ended 8-3 to WCFC.
Thanks to Soccer Schools Oxford for taking part in a great game between two good teams, we look forward to playing later in the season at Didcot!
