Match Report

Worcester City v Gloucester City U13's

First quarter - WCFC start strongly with lots of clean crisp passing in and around the Gloucester penalty box, but failed to get any shots off to trouble the keeper. As the quarter progressed Gloucester settled into the game and looked to attack WCFC on the counter using their pace to play down the wings. As they attacked down the right the ball was cut back to their forward whose powerful shot needed a fine save from Archie who did well to push the ball across the goal and with a Gloucester player ready to pounce Harry E's last ditch clearance saved a certain goal. Soon after an identical attack lead to Harry E again clearing off the line as WCFC held out to end the first quarter 0-0.

Second quarter - With Gloucester gaining momentum from the first quarter they pushed forward in numbers and were rewarded with a clever chipped shot over the keeper by Ollie Rankin to make it 0-1! The goal seemed to spark WCFC into life as up to this point Gloucester's resolute defending had stopped WCFC from having any shots on target. Scott & Tussy changed this with a couple of long range efforts, however these were dealt with well by the Gloucester keeper.

With WCFC playing at a higher tempo now Ethan passed to Sam who's delightful cross found Tussy, his shot was saved and push out to the edge of the area to Scott who was just about to strike the ball, but the defender accidently clipped his ankle and ref pointed to the spot, penalty! Up stepped Hobbo who slotted the ball into the bottom right corner 1-1!

Shortly after Jack showed great energy by pressing the Gloucester defence and forcing a throw-in right by the corner flag. Charlie's quick thinking found Hobbo on the edge of the area, his neatly threaded ball released Jack by the penalty spot who made no mistake as he side footed the ball into the corner to make it 2-1!

With momentum shifting to WCFC their possession of the ball improved and there were several lovely phases of play before Jack, Sam, Scott and Ethan combined well to release Jack who with a fine poachers finish scored again to make it 3-1!

Third quarter - WCFC continued to apply more pressure in this quarter with Harry W setting up Hobbo inside the area who's shot looked to be going into the top corner before Alfie in goals tipped the ball around the post with a great save. On the attack again Charlie and Joe worked well down the left wing with Charlie playing a teasing ball to Harry W who's shot was saved, but not cleared, he used his pace got him to the ball first in the resulting goal mouth scramble to make it 4-1!

Following a delightful flowing move between Sam, Jack, Charlie and Scott, Sam found himself on the edge of the area and scored the goal of the day which was a curled side footed shot into the top corner 5-1!

WCFC finished this quarter strongly with Harry Egan and Adam playing the ball out from the back to Hobbo whose perfectly weighted pass released Jack to scored his hat-trick and make 6-1!

Fourth quarter - With the game looking won both teams started slower, however Gloucester stuck first when WCFC tried to play out from the back they were caught dwelling on the ball and were punished when Jamie Davis drove the ball pass the keeper, 6-2!

With more pressure being applied by Gloucester it was WCFC who countered this time when Harry W ran the length of the pitch before unselfishly playing the ball to Corbin who's shot was placed neatly inside the post giving the goalie no chance, 7-2!

Gloucester to their credit continued attacking and following more confusion in the WCFC box Archie Mears scored the last goal of the day to make it 7-3!

Thanks to Gloucester for a fine game on what was a chilly day for whose not running about! We wish you all the best & look forward to playing later in the season at Gloucester
