Worcester City U15 v Alvechurch U15
Solid start to the season
1st quarter - Fairly hesitant start from both teams as they eased themselves into their first game of the season. As the game settles down Worcester City FC start to have the majority of the possession, however chances are limited as Alvechurch are setup well at the back with their midfield also offering plenty of protection. First chance for WCFC is created by the Fish as he paces past the full back and drives into the area before laying the ball off to Scott Wheeler who places the ball into the top corner 1-0. Towards the end of the quarter Alvechurch were awarded a number of free-kicks in & around the area which they could not get on the end of WCFC defended smartly.
2nd quarter- WCFC start the second quarter a lot quicker with Elijah soon testing the keeper from outside the box and a cross from Joe to Corbin who hit his shot on the half volley which went just over the bar. Another free kick for Alvechurch just outside the area is met by their No8 who headed just over the bar. Building from the back WCFC work the ball around the midfield from left to right looking for an opening before Corbin slides a pinpoint pass through to the Fish who with one touch makes to 2-0!
3rd quarter – A number of substitutes from Alvechurch gives them fresh legs & ideas, yet it’s WCFC who again have the majority of the ball following a change in shape brought about by injuries & wanting to be more attacking. Alex is played in by a long ball from Harry and only a great last-ditch block from the defender prevents what looked like a certain goal. Tyler grows in confident as the game goes on and after gliding past 2x defenders he cuts in from the right to lay the ball off to Fish who shoots just wide. Further chances for Corbin, Charley, Alex, Joe and Scott are created, but determined defending by Alvechurch and some early season rustiness sees the quarter end goalless.
4th quarter – More injuries lead one of the goalies(Archie) playing up front and straight away he combines well with Corbin to thread a ball through to Scott near the penalty spot who calmly finished low & hard in the corner 3-0! At this point Alvechurch kept on battling, however they were finding it increasingly difficult to get out of their own half and place WCFC under pressure. With Hobbo winning the ball in midfield Archie up the tempo, powering forward and from 30yrds out hits a knuckle shot at goal which was only kept by a great save from the keeper. Again, WCFC dominant the ball and create chances and they saved their best passing move to the end of the game with Dexter, Charly, Hobbo, Tyler linking up smartly to set-up Corbin who made it 4-0!
Good luck to Alvechurch who in their opening JPL fixture worked hard to get something out of the game.
