Worcester City FC U15s welcomed South Gloucestershire RTC to Perdiswell in the 2nd round of the JPL Cup
1st half – Straight from the whistle South Gloucestershire gave the impression they were more up for the game than WCFC as they passed the ball around quicker and with plenty of purpose. Without the ball they pressurised WCFC into making mistakes, forcing them to kick the ball long which resulted in them conceding possession on a number of occasions.
It was only some impressive defending from the WCFC back line and two outstanding saves from Dan that kept that the score line 0-0 with 10 minutes to go when WCFC gave away a foul in a wide position just outside of the area. The resulting free kick was a stunning curled strike into the top corner leaving the goalie no chance and at half time it ended 0-1 to South Gloucester RTC.
2nd half – A number of changes for WCFC in both players & formation lead to an instant impact as in the first minute Joe played in Jack who ran onto the ball and chipped the keeper to score 1-1!
This was soon followed by a second from WCFC when Tyler, released Jack down the right and he beat his man before calmly slipping the ball into Alex who dinked the ball past the advancing keeper to make it 2-1!
South Gloucestershire were not without their chances and following a defence splitting pass their striker was one on one with Archie the WCFC keeper who pulled off a great save that stopped a certain equaliser. Following this effort WCFC tightened up at the back and begin to exert greater control in midfield as they saw the game out 2-1 and progressed to the next round.
Our thanks go to South Gloucestershire RTC who played very well for large parts of the game and on another day the result could have been very different.
