Worcester’s defensive strength leads to them winning a tight champions of champions encounter
The boys were excellent when they won the National Elite champions game in what is often regarded as the best youth league outside academy football which is quite an achievement for a Worcester City youth team.
As the Elite league South league champions they earned the chance to play the JPL Elite North champions Guiseley FC in a one off game at Oxford.
It was closely matched game in which Guiseley had the majority of possession in the 1st half with WCFC forced to be defensively strong and looking to pounce on Guiseley with counter attack. From a corner Dexter smartly side footed the ball in to give WCFC the lead going into the break.
In the 2nd half WCFC were unlucky not to double their lead when Alex neatly lobbed the keeper on the edge of the area to put the ball in the net, however frustratingly the ref awarded a fire kick to WCFC for a foul on Alex instead of allowing the goal to stand. Throughout the half Guiseley made a number of changes and took to a more attacking formation, yet WCFC matched them all the way and saw the game out to the end with a clean sheet.
