We were sad to learn that former City player Alan Hadley has passed away.

Alan was one of several promising local amateur players who signed for City during the early 1970s. A former Worcestershire County Amateur cap, he joined us from Pershore Junior Old Boys and accepted an offer to turn professional in the Autumn of 1971.

A remarkably consistent and fit player, Alan – who worked as a Post Office engineer - was a regular selection under a number of different managers over the next five years, playing mostly in midfield, although he was also a very capable full-back.

He kept his place in the first team when Nobby Clark was appointed, he began to face more competition as Nobby looked to rebuilt the team, and was released in February 1976. After a period at Malvern Town, Alan returned to local league football. Altogether, he made 220 first-team appearances for City over a five year period.

Alan also excelled as a cricket player and remained a popular figure on the local sporting scene for many years. We extend our sympathy to Alan’s family. He will be remembered as one of the best local footballers of his generation.
