Newark Flowserve FC v Worcester City - Saturday 3rd August 2019 3pm Kick Off

The 2019/20 Season gets underway on Saturday (3rd August) with an away trip to newly promoted Newark Flowserve FC at Lowfields.

The Nottinghamshire side were promoted to The Midland Football League in second place behind Selston from The East Midlands Counties League and it is their first season at step 5 of the Non League Pyramid.

City go into the game with a fully fit squad with only goalkeeper Dan Jezeph missing as he serves the remaining three games from his long suspension.

City Manager Ashley Vincent said, "Apart from Dan we are selecting from a fully fit squad. We will have a light training session tonight (Thursday 1st) and I am very much looking forward to the start of the new season. We have signed a Goal Keeper on loan today to cover for Dan, Ted Cann from West Bromwich Albion who is a decent prospect."

"From a personal point of view, this is four years in the making after retiring from professional football. I have coached at various clubs to gain more experience as well as working with Snapper (John Snape) last season at City, I am keen to get going."

"We have acquired players from higher levels who have experienced playing in winning teams at this level but it is up to me to make sure we get the best out of everyone."

City will be changing the way the Club Captain works this season with an idea picked up from the FIFA Women's World Cup. The City Manager added, "We liked the idea used by the USA Team in the summer so we will pick from three players to lead the Team this season. That will be Luke English, Craig Jones and Aaron Birch with Birchy being Captain when he plays. Luke was Captain last year and the lads look up to him & Craig has experience playing in a winning team at Bromsgrove. Aaron leads by example and his experience with Hereford will be invaluable. We believe all three will make the squad work better together and give us a strong dressing room."

"Although it will be our first game against Newark, we have done as much preparation as possible with some of our staff watching a few of their friendlies & we are familiar with several of their players but it is down to us to get it right on the day. We have concentrated on the condition of the players over the past few weeks & they are in top shape. We took on higher graded teams in our match schedule and we are very pleased with the way it has gone".
