CITY YOUTH WEEKLY ROUNDUP

CITY YOUTH WEEKLY ROUNDUP

WCFC ONLINE25 Jan 2022 - 12:25

A look at the games across our youth teams in the past week

Worcester City Youth's youngest age group still managed to get their boots dirty on Saturday even though they were fixtureless.

The Under 8s were mascots for the first team's Midland Football League clash with Boldmere St Michaels and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of walking out onto the Claines Lane pitch ahead of kick-off.

Onto the action and two sides enjoyed brilliant away wins over Kidderminster Harriers.

The Under 16s ended the 30-plus match unbeaten run of Kiddy's Nerf Junior Premier League Whites team with a fantastic performance in the WFA County Cup quarter-finals.

They more than matched a very slick opposition and twice came from behind to level the tie at 2-2 thanks to a Fabian Hook header and a Jesse Asomugha penalty - coolly despatched in the dying seconds of normal time.

City keeper Josh Reed-Jones then saved two penalties in the shoot-out before Jamie Hill calmly stroked home his team's fifth spot kick to secure a semi-final berth.

In the Midland Football League, City again got the better in a 3-2 success. Callum Dark grabbed a brace and Jack Ricketts was also on target as the visitors overcame the dismissal of substitute Mateusz Klich to hold onto their lead with 10 men for the final 15 minutes to clinch the three points.

The Under 16s weren't the only team to progress in the County Cup via a late equaliser and a 4-2 win on penalties as there was high drama too for the Under 15s.

With the final whistle looming, Dawid Szkwarek squared their tie with West Worcester at 1-1. The goalscorer then tucked away his penalty in the shoot-out as did team-mates Lucas Colley, Karan Purewell and Lewis Tolley.

Charlie McNamara then capped a superb performance between the posts during normal time by keeping out two West Worcester penalties.

However the Under 14s' interest in their Worcestershire FA competition ended with a 1-4 defeat at the hands of Pershore Town.

There were cup fixtures for several other Worcester City Youth sides, including the Under 11 Boys who took on Kidderminster Athletic Eagles.

The Under 13 Lionesses lost 0-4 to Meadow Park in their George Silverman Memorial Cup semi-final whilst the Under 11 Girls showed no signs of rustiness with an excellent display against Catshill in their first match since early December.

City's other Under 13 girls' sides were in Mercian League action where they chalked up a 2-0 win against Halas Hawks Lionesses with Indie Lannie and Ruby Craythorne the goalscorers.

In the JPL, the Under 12 Blues and Under 13 Boys both recorded 4-1 victories.

Goals from Joel Reeves, Oscar Hanbury, Roman Griffin and Harley Arnold sank Chesterfield Under 13s.

Two goals apiece for Tom Rebbeck and Oliver Moore saw off Solihull Academy for the younger age group. There was revenge for Solihull in the Under 18 meeting between the two clubs though as they ran out 2-1 victors - wing-back Isaac Pepper forcing a home defender into an own-goal after a good run and cross from the left flank for City's solitary goal.

Dylan Jennings hit a double to add to an Alex Lloyd effort but it wasn't enough to prevent the Under 12 Whites going down 3-5 to Herefordshire FA BDC.

Saturday's final match was a friendly between the Under 9s and Aston Villa Under 10 Girls.

Sunday's games saw the Under 10s travel to PS Olympic in the Stourbridge & Youth District League. Last but not least, the Under 13s triumphed 4-0 over Areley Kings Youth in the Mercian League courtesy of Fin Parker (2), Cameron Elton and Harry Davies.
