Following their win over Long Eaton United last weekend, City looked to make it back to back wins in the league as they hosted Sheshed Dynamo at Claines Lane. City were once again back in numbers as 615 supporters gathered to back the boys in blue and white.
It was City that began to dominate in the opening sequences. Just 3 minutes into the game Liam Lockett slipped Felix Miles down the left wing. Miles cut inside and his effort was saved by the keeper. Merely 30 seconds later, Belmonte had his long range shot come agonisingly close to opening City’s lead as he forced the keeper into a difficult save.
26 minutes into the game Dynamo thought they had their opener when Dixon played Dixon through one on one but he was denied by Whitcombe. The final chance of the half fell to Adam Mace who blasted his free kick into the bottom corner only for another great save from Nunez to keep the teams level heading into the second half.
Furthermore, it only took City just two minutes to find their opener in the second half. Following a grapple for the ball, Zac Guinan was brought down on the edge of the box and City were awarded a free kick. Up stepped the new man Felix Miles, who magnificently curled his free kick over the wall and into the top corner giving City their lead!
Eighteen minutes later on the 65th minute, City’s dominance continued and had their lead doubled by a spectacular bit of link up play by Guinan and Lockett. Lockett received the ball on the left hand side, he cut inside and found Guinan who quickly returned the ball, Lockett’s eyes lit up as he created space inside the 18 yard box and blasted the ball into the bottom corner.
However, Lockett’s afternoon wasn’t over just yet as he looked to get a brace and in the 81st minute he managed to do so. Lockett once again cut inside against his opponent, only to be tripped up in the box, despite his appeal the ref waved play on, Lockett got back to his feet, knocked the ball past the defender and fired the ball into the top corner. The only thing cooler than the finish was the celebration which was a mere shrug at the referee who didn’t give the penalty for original foul. A spectacular finish putting the game to bed for City.
As a result, City climb to 5th in the league and turn their attention to their away game at Sporting Khalsa for their next game in the Pitching Inn Northern Premier League - Midlands Division.
