We are pleased to shine a spotlight on one of our valued club partners, Worcester City Bathrooms, and its owner, ex-City player Steve Walker. Steve continues his fantastic support as a Club sponsor, including sponsoring the Sixways big screen and our end of season awards. His ongoing backing plays an important role both on matchdays and as we celebrate the achievements of the campaign.
When did football start for you?
"Apparently, as soon as I was walking, but once I started primary school I remember being completely addicted to the sport, and that remains the same now."
What are your earliest memories of St Georges Lane & WCFC?
"I recall being around 7, with my dad taking me and my brother to an evening game under the lights. I just remember it being a great atmosphere, and even back then I always thought I hoped I’d get to play there one day and represent the club, which I was fortunate enough to do."
How did it come about you playing for the club?
"I got released from Hereford Utd at age 20 and went to Pershore Town, where my brother was, who were playing at Step 4 at the time. I was then offered the chance for a trial game in the reserves. After joining the club, I played several reserve games before breaking into the first team squad, where I stayed for two seasons."
What were your footballing career highs and lows?
"Starting at Norwich City when I was 12 and then being at Aston Villa’s academy from 14 to 16 were great experiences, but being offered full-time employment after leaving school at Wolves, and then at Hereford Utd, were my career highs.
"Bar injuries, hanging up my boots at 32 was definitely my career low, without a doubt."
How did you start your current business and what do you do?
"After being made redundant by a bathroom distribution company, my brother and I had the crazy idea to set up our own business, and the rest is history. I am now a Director in our family-run business."
How would you describe your current association with the club?
"As a business, we are club sponsors, which we have been for a few years now. Being a local lad and having previously played for the club, I love to watch and support Chris and the squad."
Fan, Sponsor, Player – Which is best?
"I am a massive fan of the sport generally, and we are very proud to sponsor this great club, but in honesty you can never beat that buzz of putting the boots on and playing, which I do miss now."
