BT Sport confirms next set of Live Football Conference Matches

BT Sport and The Football Conference have confirmed a further six games to be featured live from the Skrill Premier, to add to the original list of three, with the explosive Cambridge United v FC Halifax Town last Sunday starting the season off with a bang and grabbing the headlines, with six goals, two penalties and two sending offs. Phew!

The scheduled list shown, itemises the specific Channel on which the games will be screened plus on-air and kick off times.

Barnet v Cambridge, Saturday 16 November, on-air 5pm, 5.30pm, BT Sport 1

Two of the major early season favourites clash at the Racecourse on Friday 13th September when Wrexham host Luton Town. Wrexham narrowly missed out on promotion to League Two last season after losing to Welsh rivals Newport County AFC in the Promotion Final and will expect to feature strongly this season. Luton under new manager John Still will be under pressure to do better than the Hatters achieved last term. He and his players have to meet the expectations their fans crave and this game comes just six days after they feature in a home match against the Mariners aka Grimsby Town, which is also being shown by BT Sport.

Friday 27 September then brings viewers the chance to watch one of the most eagerly-awaited matches of the season as one of the fancied sides for promotion, Kidderminster Harriers, take on Aldershot Town, who were narrowly relegated from The Football League last season, whereas Harriers narrowly missed promotion, finishing runners up to Champions, Mansfield Town.

BT Sport thereafter feature another team expected to perform strongly in the Skrill Premier: Edgar David’s Barnet, versus Wrexham. Barnet were also narrowly relegated from The Football League last season and with Davids at the helm, will be out to make a quick return, at their new “The Hive” stadium. After the years at Underhill this will provide many football followers the first opportunity to see their new stadium.

Moving into October, viewers will be able to catch the clash between Macclesfield and Southport, live on Thursday 17th. Macclesfield, despite reaching the fourth round of last season’s FA Cup after memorably beating Cardiff City, finished in mid-table last season. Their opponents Southport will relish another season in the Skrill Premier after narrowly avoiding relegation to English football’s sixth tier last season. Both clubs have gone through internal management restructure in the summer and it will be interesting to see which club is adjusting better.

On the last day in October, BT Sport brings live coverage of Skrill Premier new boys Salisbury City against Hereford United. City spent two seasons in the Conference South before winning promotion to the Skrill Premier via the play-offs in the 2012–13 season. Their opponents Hereford United finished a respectable sixth last season and will hope to land three points in what could prove a tough away trip. It will be intriguing, as Mikey Harris of the Whites, being the youngest manager in the Skrill Premier, will lock horns with one of the most experienced in Martin Foyle of the aptly named Bulls.

Barnet will then host and round off the ninth live game when Cambridge United make the short journey on 16 November. Both sides are looking to make a return to The Football League: The Abbey Stadium has not witnessed Football League action since United were relegated in 2005 after 35 years. Former Dutch international Davids will look to inspire Barnet to a return to The Football League at the first time of asking and it will be interesting to see where both these clubs are in the Skrill Premier when they face each other.

The Football Conference and BT Sport have a two-year deal for the new channels to show 30 live matches a season from The Skrill Premier Football Conference.

BT Sport will host live broadcasts from the grounds for 25 league matches, plus both legs of the play-off semis and the Promotion Final at Wembley, from the start of the 2013-14 season in August.
Simon Green, director of BT Sport, said: “BT Sport is delighted to bring fans this set of live televised matches with a rich seam of plots and back-stories. The channels will feature matches involving teams under pressure to return to The Football League against other clubs who are relishing the unique opportunity to compete in English football’s fifth tier. The new Skrill Premier season promises to be a classic battle for promotion to The Football League.”

Including these newly-confirmed matches, BT Sport will show 38 exclusively live football matches from the Barclays Premier League, including 18 of the 'top picks', for each of the next three seasons. The channels will also show live FA Cup with Budweiser matches for the next five seasons. There will also be live football action from Scotland, the UEFA Europa League and top tier football from Germany, Italy, France, Brazil, Australia and the USA. In addition there will be action from the FA Women's Super League.
