Profiling the players born in the City who have gone on to really make their mark in the game...

Andy Awford (25 appearances)
The son of Terry Awford, a promising Worcester reserve player who made 10 first-team appearances as a full back between 1960 and 1966, Andy Awford was a schoolboy football prodigy who had a short spell with Worcester as a 15 year-old full-back after appearing for England Schoolboys.
He holds the honour of being the youngest player ever to appear in the FA Cup competition, at just 15 years and 88 days.
After joining Portsmouth as a trainee in 1988, he gained England Youth, Under-18, 19 and 21 recognition as well as Football League XI representative honours.
Unfortunately his career was cut short by two serious injuries, and he was advised to quit the game in 2001, still under the age of 30, after making 375 appearances.
He stayed on at Portsmouth, becoming the club’s chief scout and later reserve team manager. He then went on to become first-team coach at Oxford United and assistant manager of Bognor Regis Town.
He was a PE teacher in Petersfield before returning to Pompey as Academy Manager in 2011. He then moved up to assistant manager before taking caretaker charge of the club on a couple of occasions, earning the job on a permanent basis in the summer of 2014.
Leaving the club in April 2015, he then became Development Manager at Luton Town and remains at Kenilworth Road.
Career: Worcester (09/87), Portsmouth (7/88).
