Worcester City Reserves got back to winning ways as they collected an excellent away victory at Walsall Wood in the Midland Football League.
Following three successive defeats, a solitary Armani Bennett strike was enough to clinch the points. With two games in hand on a lot of the sides around them, wins could easily propel City into the top five and next up is a home fixture against second-from-bottom Gresley Rovers.
In the Nerf Junior Premier League, the Under 18s also performed well on their travels as they picked up a point at Oxford City with two Under 16s in their ranks. The visitors went in front through Eden Goodwin before their hosts – a team predominantly playing their second season at this level – levelled matters ahead of the half-time whistle.
There was a win, a draw and a loss for City in a trio of JPL fixtures against Stourbridge. Damian Duncan, Oscar Hanbury and Jack Edwards were on the scoresheet in a 3-1 success for the Under 13s with a Josh Francis effort giving the Under 14s a share of the spoils as the Under 15s were beaten 0-2.
It was a cup weekend for City’s trio of Mercian League Under 13 teams with only the Lionesses progressing as Maisie Jackson grabbed the only goal of the game versus Evesham United Panthers to take them into the next round of the George Silverman Memorial Cup. After reaching the final of the same competition last season, City Girls bowed out though as goals from Belle Gough and Ruby Craythorne weren’t enough to stave off a 2-4 defeat against Catshill.
The Under 13 Boys couldn’t overcome their league leaders, Nunnery Wood Colts Hornets, as they exited the Mercian League Trophy World Cup at the quarter-final stage in a 0-4 loss.
There was a fantastic advertisement for youth football as the Under 12 Blues played out a thriller with Coventry Sky Blues before being shaded out 2-3 - Oscar Moore notching City’s first with the second courtesy of a 25-yard piledriver by Caleb Gunston.
Worcester City Youth’s thriving younger age groups also showcased their talent and ongoing development beginning with the Under 8s who met South Staffordshire RTC. The Under 9s Blues and Whites continue to flourish as they showed in their matches against Pro Pathway and Wolves Girls respectively and there was another outstanding display by the Under 10s versus Stoke RTC.
Excellent performances too by City’s two Under 11 teams – the boys putting in a great show against Droitwich Spa and the girls producing a phenomenal comeback in their game with Evesham United.
