A Perfect Team Display

Today we made the journey south for the away fixture against WBA Gloucester. The match was played in the picturesque village of Winchcombe on a 3G pitch. It was a lovely sunny morning, ideal conditions for playing football.

Q1 – The match started at a fairly frantic pace with neither side retaining possession particularly well. Worcester got the break through though following a quick throw in, which Joe Palmer latched onto and coolly slotted the ball past the onrushing keeper. WBA were soon level after good work from their winger, who delivered a pin point cross to the centre of the area, which was volleyed into the back of the Worcester net from close range. WBA enjoyed a brief spell of pressure and Joel Chadwick make a fine double save to keep the score level. Worcester once again took the lead after a mistake by the WBA keeper who passed the ball straight to Tristan Webby, who calmly chipped the keeper from the edge of the area (with his left foot – well done!) (1-2)

Q2 – Worcester were now dominant and were unlucky not to add a number of goals to their tally. The only goal of the quarter was scored from an Ethan Sherwood free kick which was headed home from close range by Tom Griffin. (1-3)

Q3 – This quarter saw Worcester play some beautiful passing football and really pressed home their advantage with two further goals. The first from a dipping cross from Jamie Meadows which Charlie Barrett was on hand to slot home and the second when Charlie Barrett robbed the WBA defender and drilled the ball past the keeper from the edge of the area. (1-5)

Q4 – A change in formation for Worcester for the final quarter worked well and Prince Henry helped himself to a brace. His first goal was scored following a weighted pass from distance from Jamie Meadows which Prince out-muscled the defender and despite the keepers attempts to foul him, stayed on his feet to tap the ball into the empty net. His second came with a fine through ball from Tristan Webby which saw Prince outpace the WBA defence and hit a fine strike past the keeper’s right hand. (1-7)

Today was a fine display of passing football and in truth the score line was only what Worcester deserved. This was a solid TEAM performance, from Goalies, defenders, midfielders and strikers – everyone played well.

AWARDS :
Gold : Jamie Meadows – Caused the home side problems with his wing play and two assists.
Silver : Prince Henry – Fantastic fourth quarter, took his goals well.
Bronze : Charlie Barrett – Effort and endeavour and two well taken goals.
