2nd Round

Today Worcester were at home for the second round of the Worcester Cup. It was a cold morning but the pitch was bathed in sunshine.

1st half ā€“ Worcester were immediately in the ascendancy and took an early lead. The goal came after great wing play from Tristan Webby whose cross was converted from close range by Tom Mills. A second goal followed quickly which was almost a carbon copy of the first. This time Prince Henry was the provider and Harvey James converted from close range.

The game became a little scrappy and Welland started to get a foothold in the match although Worcester added a third following a ball into Harvey James from Tom Griffin and Harvey powered his shot into the corner of the net from the edge of the box. A fourth goal came shortly before half time after a long ball from Jamie Meadows was latched onto by Prince Henry who outpaced the Welland defenders and although his initial shot was saved by the keeper, Prince was on hand to follow up the rebound. Welland were slightly unlucky not to reduce the deficit when they hit the Worcester crossbar although there were no further goals scored and the half finished 4-0.

2nd half - The second half saw Worcester quickly out of the traps with some fine passing football. A fifth goal was added by Kane Bullock who beat the keeper with a shot from the edge of the area after a goal mouth scramble. Worcester were now in full flow and Tom Mills scored a well taken headed goal following a strong run and cross by Charlie Barrett. A seventh goal was scored by Joe Palmer who was fed by Tristan Webby, Joe received the ball with his back to goal, turned sharply and placed a strong shot into the corner of the net. Worcesters eighth goal was scored following a driving run from midfield by Tom Mills who threaded the ball through the Welland defence to Tristan Webby who placed an accurate shot across the keeper which went just inside the post. Worcesters ninth goal was scored after trickery on the wing by Tristan Webby who found Tom Mills on the edge of the box. Tom beat his marker and placed an accurate shot just inside the far post to complete his hat trick. A final goal was scored by Joe Palmer with a close range header following a Tristan Webby corner.

Overall this was a good performance by Worcester who could have won the game by a greater margin but for a fine performance by the Welland keeper ā€“ well done lads.
