Another Win

Today we played West Midlands Fire at home on a cold but sunny winters morning.

Q1 – The first quarter started with Worcester in the ascendancy and the home side were soon one nil up with a good ball played through from Tom Mills on the wing which Joe Palmer latched onto and poked the ball under the advancing keeper. A second goal quickly followed when Kane Bullock controlled the ball well in the centre of midfield and fed Charlie Barrett who beat the onrushing keeper to the ball and placed a shot into the empty net. (2-0)

Q2 – This was Worcester’s strongest quarter and a third goal was scored after the goalkeepers goal kick was intercepted by Tristan Webby. Tristan put Joe Palmer through on goal and Joe clinically finished into the corner of the net. Tristan Webby was again the provider for Worcester’s fourth, when his cross was headed home by Joe Palmer for his hat trick. Worcester went five ahead with a through ball from Prince Henry which Tom Griffin latched onto, rounded the keeper and slotted home into an empty net. (5-0)

Q3 – In the third quarter West Midlands Fire enjoyed their best passage of play and pulled a goal back with a shot from the edge of the box which was diverted home from close range. Despite the away team enjoying more of the possession, no further goals were added in this quarter. (5-1)

Q4 – West Midlands Fire started the quarter well and began to get a foothold in the match and were slightly unlucky to go 6-1 down after a through ball from Zach Humphreys was inadvertently played past the keeper by a West Midlands Fire defender. The deficit was reduced from the penalty spot despite the Worcester keeper getting a hand to the ball. In the final minutes West Midlands Fire scored a further goal from close range. (6-3)
This was a keenly contested game between two good sides. We look forward to the return fixture later in the season.

AWARDS : Gold – Ethan Sherwood, Silver – Joe Palmer, Bronze – Zach Humphreys
