Semi-Final

Today Worcester were at home for the semi-final of the Worcester County Cup, on a cold January morning.

1st half – Cookley started brightly and put pressure on the Worcester goal in the early stages of the game. Once Worcester were into their stride the home side created a number of opportunities and but for the Cookley keepers heroics, Worcester would have been well clear by half time. As it was, Worcester didn’t break the deadlock until 2 minutes from half time when Prince Henry made a strong run down the wing, cut into the box and found Joe Palmer who calmly slotted the ball past the keeper into the corner of the net. (1-0)

2nd half – As with the first half, Cookley dominated for the first 5 minutes although a second goal, which was scored by Finn Syson, effectively settled the contest. The goal came following a set piece which was not properly cleared. Finn pounced and acrobatically converted with an overhead kick. As the half wore on, Worcester got stronger and stronger, and in the end ran out easy winners. Worcesters third goal was scored with a good move from the back, with intricate passes throughout the team. The assist for the goal followed a great cross from Joe Palmer and Tristan Webby was on hand to tap the ball in from close range (a great team goal). The fourth came from a corner which was headed home strongly by Tom Griffin from inside the 6 yard box. Worcester were now rampant and Tom Griffin was this time the provider for Prince Henry to slot home with a shot across the keeper for the home teams fifth. The sixth, seventh and eighth goals came in a 5 minute spell. The sixth being a re-bound from the keeper which Jacob Titheridge pounced on to rifle into the roof of the net. The seventh came from a fine through ball by Kane Bullock which Prince Henry dispatched from the edge of the area and the eighth by Joe Palmer, being a fine solo effort in which he went around a number of Cookley defenders before calmly beating the keeper.

Overall this was a good performance by Worcester who could have won the game by a greater margin but for a fine performance by the Cookley keeper – well done lads.
