A Close Encounter

Today we welcomed Kettering Town to Perdiswell on a cold and wet March morning. It had rained heavily in the night so the homeside worked hard to clear the pitch of any surface water and the referee deemed the match playable.

Q1 - Kettering started the game in a determined fashion and put Worcester on the back foot and deservedly took the lead with a breakaway goal early on. The awayside were strong in the tackle and seemed to be quicker to the second ball and were unlucky not to add to their tally. 0-1

Q2 - The game was now an open affair and Worcester started to get a foothold in the game. Having said that, the homeside were largely limited to a couple of long range efforts which did not overly trouble the Kettering keeper. Shortly before half time Kettering went two up and Worcester now knew that they were in a game. 0-2

Q3 - A change in formation saw Worcester seize the initiative and it was no surprise that the homeside reduced the deficit after good hold up play from Callum Lovegrove. Callum’s turn and cross found Joe Palmer who was on hand to slot home from close range. Game on! Worcester now dominated possession and forced the Kettering keeper into a number of fine saves. An equaliser came from the penalty spot after Joe Palmer was fouled and Tom Mills calmly slotted home. Worcester really had the bit between their teeth and from an Olly Berry corner, the ball found its way to Ethan Sherwood on the edge of the area and he rifled a low shot past the keeper. 3-2

Q4 - The match was still finally balanced going into the last quarter although the game was put to bed following good work on the wing from Joe Palmer who found Olly Berry just inside the penalty area. Olly controlled the ball and hit a firm shot past the helpless keeper. 4-2

This was a great game of football between two hard working sides. We wish Kettering well for the rest of the season.

Awards : Gold - Finn Syson, Silver - Callum Lovegrove, Bronze - Ethan Sherwood (chosen by opposition manager)
