11 Great Goals

Today we travelled North to play St Georges in Great Barr on a cold and wet February morning. The pitch was heavy after a significant downpour overnight.

Q1 – Worcester enjoyed a lot of the opening possession and went ahead after a fine cross ball from Olly Berry was met by Joe Palmer whose shot angled into the corner of the St Georges net. Worcester continued to dominate proceedings and were soon 2 ahead following a long ball from Tom Mills which again Joe Palmer latched onto and calmly slid the ball past the onrushing keeper. 0-2

Q2 – St Georges adopted a more defensive formation and although Worcester continued to see much of the ball, the away side did not really trouble the St Georges keeper. No further goals were scored in this quarter. 0-2

Q3 - In the third quarter a change in Worcester’s formation paid dividends and despite the fact that the pitch was cutting up badly, Worcester continued to probe and added 3 further goals to their tally. The first was a fine cross field ball from Olly Berry which found Tristan Webby on the edge of the penalty area. Tristan’s advanced towards the St Georges goal although his shot was saved by the keeper and Callum Lovegrove was on hand to tap in the rebound. The second came from another Olly Berry cross field ball which again found Tristan Webby. Tristan controlled the ball, and shot first time over the keepers head and into the roof of the net (a really well taken goal). The final goal of the quarter came from a Tristan Webby corner which was unfortunately headed into his own goal by a homeside player. 0-5

Q4 – Worcester were now rampant and Ethan Sherwood got in on the action with a long range effort. Worcester’s 7th came from an Ethan Sherwood corner which was expertly volleyed in by Callum Lovegrove from just inside the six yard box. An 8th came after good work from Callum Lovegrove who forced a homeside defender into an error which was latched onto by Olly Berry who smartly finished into the top corner of the net. Worcester’s 9th came from good wing play by Prince Henry whose cross was headed in by Callum Lovegrove. A 10th came after another Prince Henry run who found Joe Palmer on the edge of the area. Joe’s shot sailed over the keepers head and dipped under the bar. Worcester’s final goal came from a Tom Mills cross on the byline which was headed in at the back post by Callum Lovegrove. 0-11

Worcester adapted well to the conditions as the pitch by the end of the game turned into a bog in the central areas and there were encouraging signs as the boys adapted well to a change in formation at halftime.
