Today we welcomed our local rivals, Stourbridge for a game which is always keenly contested, with no quarter given by either side. The conditions were dry but there was a biting cold wind.

Q1 – Stourbridge were quick out of the blocks and enjoyed the better of the early exchanges. From their first corner, Stourbridge took the lead with a well taken header and went two nil up in almost identical fashion minutes later. Worcester had a couple of long range efforts although the Stourbridge keeper was not overly troubled. 0-2

Q2 – In the second quarter Stourbridge sat deep and allowed Worcester to have much of the possession. Neither side had any real clear cut chances which meant the home side went into the half time break still two down. 2-0

Q3 – A change in formation saw Worcester seize the initiative and it was no surprise when Worcester reduced the deficit with a long range shot from Tom Griffin. Worcester now were right back in the game and went in search of an equaliser which they deservedly got from an Olly Berry corner which somehow eluded everyone including the keeper and ended up in the back of the net. This set up a grandstand finish with the game now evenly balanced. 2-2

Q4 – Almost immediately from the kick off Stourbridge regained the initiative with a well taken shot which deflected in off one of the Worcester defenders, and Stourbridge had the chance to put the game to bed but George Bourne made a fine save to keep his team in the game. The Worcester players did not let their heads drop and for the second time in the day, went hunting for an equaliser. With approximately ten minutes to go Worcester were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. Tristan Webby hit a strong shot which was the keeper was unable to hold on to and Tom Griffin was on hand to bundle home an equaliser. 3-3

This was a fine game played by two strong sides and a draw was probably a fair reflection of the overall play.
