Today we travelled to play WBA Gloucester. We had already won the league earlier in the week, but another win today would leave Worcester City unbeaten in the league for the season.
Q1 – The game started at a pace with Worcester enjoying most of the early possession. Olly Berry went close to opening the scoring although his shot went narrowly wide. The game had now become an open affair and George Bourne saved well from a powerful strike from the WBA striker. Finn Syson then hit the bar for Worcester although WBA took the lead following a deflected shot which sent George the wrong way. 1-0
Q2 – The pitch was not in the best condition which made it hard to play good football. Despite Worcester stepping up their performance they were unable to find an equaliser. 1-0
Q3 – Worcester were now taking the game to WBA and Tom Mills went close with two early efforts, one which went over the bar and one which flashed across the goal. Worcester found an equaliser when Prince Henry found Callum Lovegrove at the back post and he forced the ball over the line from close range. Almost immediately WBA retook the lead though after an uncharacteristic mistake from the Worcester defence which allowed a WBA player to score again. 2-1
Q4 – Worcester dominated the final quarter and could have scored on a number of occasions. A fine cross from Olly Berry found Joe Palmer and a fine header made it 2-2. Another super cross from Olly Berry saw Joe score a second headed goal to make the score 2-3. Worcester were now rampant and after the ball rebounded around the WBA penalty area, Callum Lovegrove scored his second goal to make the score 2-4. To their credit WBA did not give up and they reduced the deficit with a cracker of a goal with a shot from distance with 5 minutes to go 3-4.
This was a well contested match played between two strong sides, but Worcester held onto their lead to finish the season unbeaten in the league. Well done lads!!!
