Worcester Win Again

Today we welcomed Hereford to Perdiswell. The boys had not played for a couple of weeks due to the recent poor weather although the pitch had held up well even though it had rained all through the night.

Q1 - The opening quarter was an evenly contested affair with opportunities at both ends. Worcester took the lead after good work from Prince Henry who twisted and turned in the area before laying a short ball into Joe Palmer who placed a low shot past the Hereford keeper. George Bourne kept Worcester’s lead in tact with a great save from a Hereford set piece. 1-0

Q2 – Worcester changed their formation and this change saw the home side have a lot more of the ball, although despite creating a number of good chances they were unable to extend their lead. Hereford battled well and played some neat football themselves. 1-0

Q3 – The game sprang into life in the third quarter and the play was far more open. Worcester went 2 ahead after a ball into the box found Tom Mills who calmly controlled the ball and found Callum Lovegrove who rolled the ball into the corner of the net. Just when Worcester thought that they could go on and add to their tally, Hereford pulled a goal back through a long range effort which went in off the underside of the crossbar. 2-1

Q4 – The game was now set up for a grandstand finish although any hope that Hereford had of finding an equaliser was dashed almost immediately from the kick off. Worcester made it 3-1 with a good team goal. Tom Mills picked up the ball in the centre of midfield and sprayed the ball out Tristan Webby on the wing. Tristan beat his man and placed a pinpoint cross into the Hereford penalty area and Prince Henry was on hand to sidefoot the ball past the keeper from just inside the six yard box. Despite Hereford’s best efforts, they were unable to penetrate a resilient Worcester side who saw the game out. 3-1

This was a great advert for the JPL, played between two good footballing sides. We look forward to the return fixture shortly, which will no doubt be another close affair.

AWARDS : Gold – Finn Syson, Silver –Tom Mills, Bronze – Prince Henry (as awarded by opposition manager)
