Today we made the long trip to Oxford to play Oxford City U16’s in a friendly.
Q1 – The home team were quickly into their stride and took the lead with the first attack of the game. Worcester did not crumble and instead started to take the game to Oxford. There were no clear cut chances although Worcester more than held their own. 1-0
Q2 – Worcester continued in the same vein in the second quarter and had a lot of possession and an equaliser came after Tom Mills won the ball on the edge of the Oxford penalty area. Tom found Joe Palmer whose first time cross was volleyed in at the back post by Prince Henry. 1-1
Q3 – Worcester tried a different formation in the final two quarters which is still a work in progress. This allowed Oxford to enjoy more of the possession and they took the lead with a well taken finish and were unlucky not to add to their tally, but for a fine save from George Bourne in the Worcester goal. 2-1
Q4 –Worcester continued to battle and were rewarded for their endeavours with a well taken equaliser. The goal came after Tom Mills won the ball in midfield and his first time pass found Callum Lovegrove who outmuscled the Oxford defender and chipped the keeper from the edge of the penalty area. 2-2
This was a great game of football played by two good teams and an excellent test for the lads.
