Semi-Final Success

Today we welcomed The New Saints CF for the eagerly awaited Elite Play-Off Semi-Final. It was another warm and sunny day and the pitch looked immaculate.

Q1 - The first quarter was a fairly even affair with both sides content to hold their positions without giving too much away. Neither side was able to muster a meaningful attempt on goal. 0-0

Q2 - The second quarter saw Worcester on the front foot and Tristan Webby went close to breaking the deadlock but his shot from distance hit the top of the bar. Callum Lovegrove also had a shot well saved by the New Saints keeper before Tom Griffin scored from a free kick with a hard and low shot from just outside the box. 1-0

Q3 - The New Saints started the third quarter in determined fashion and put Worcester on the back foot. Despite the away side enjoying far more of the possession, Worcester still had chances to extend their lead when Callum Lovegrove and Tristan Webby went close again. 1-0

Q4 - The New Saints were on top again in the final quarter and as the game wore on they looked dangerous especially from set pieces. With almost the final kick of the game, the away side scored with a shot which beat the Worcester keeper at his near post which was no more than they deserved. 1-1

Extra time - Far from the equaliser having a detrimental effect on Worcester, the home side seemed to be revitalised when the game restarted. A long ball was chased down in the left hand corner by Callum Lovegrove and his cross to the back post was met by Prince Henry who placed a firm shot into the roof of the net from close range. The second half of extra time saw Worcester continue where they’d left off in the first half and the game was effectively put to bed with what was the best goal of the game. The move was started by Tom Griffin who found Joe Palmer. Joe squared the ball to Tristan Webby who beat his man and placed a low shot past the keeper and into the corner of the net. The final whistle saw wild scenes of celebration from the home side once again! 3-1

This was a great game played by two talented sides.

Awards : Gold – Zach Bowater, Silver – Josh Schuck, Bronze – Prince Henry (chosen by opposition manager)
