Match report by Daren Mills

Today we welcomed table topping MK Dons to Perdiswell. The conditions were perfect for football, the sun was shining and the pitch was in excellent condition.

Q1 - Worcester started the game on the front foot and enjoyed the majority of the early play. Almost immediately Olly Berry went close to opening the score although he screwed his shot wide from a promising position. It was no more than Worcester deserved when the home side took the lead after Tom Mills won the ball midway through the MK Dons half. He drove towards the penalty area, went round the centre back and placed a shot into the corner of the net. Worcester got a second quickly thereafter with a Tom Griffin through ball to Olly Berry who placed a low shot under the keeper. It was no surprise that Worcester then got a third with a well paced header from Tom Griffin which looped over the keeper from an Olly Berry free kick. 3-0

Q2 - MK Dons were a little shell shocked after the first quarter and looked to try and get a foothold in the game. This quarter was a more even affair although the home side added a fourth goal to their tally when Finn Syson found Curtis Turner on the edge of the area. Curtis burst forward and placed a quality shot into the corner of the net with the keeper well beaten. 4-0

Q3 - This quarter saw MK Dons perform in a far more determined fashion and they pressed the Worcester players all over the pitch. It was not a surprise when they pulled a goal back with a header from a free kick.,This was quickly followed by a second after a mix up in the Worcester defence following a long ball which saw the MK forward round the keeper and place the ball into the empty net. The visitors had the opportunity to close the gap further although Ben Clay made a great save from the penalty spot when he tipped the ball onto the post and the rebound was somehow missed from close range when it looked easier to score. To compound this miss, Worcester then got a 5th goal when Matthew Patrick-Rivers intercepted a poor back pass, rounded the keeper and scored from close range. 5-2

Q4 - The final quarter saw no real further opportunities with Worcester content to protect their lead. 5-2

This was a great game between two good sides and we look forward to the return fixture.
