Worcester welcomed Birmingham RTC to Perdiswell leisure centre on yet another windy Saturday morning.
Birmingham started much the better team and they took the lead after they hit a long ball forward which Ben Clay came out to collect, only to be met by a gust of wind which took the ball away from him and into a Birmingham player’s path for an easy tap in. 0-1. Birmingham soon doubled their lead after some good pressure resulted in a good finish from their striker. 0-2 Q1.
Worcester quickly found their feet in Q2 and after some brilliant build up play involving Tom Griffin, Cam Monteith and Tristan Webby; Cam ran through on goal and finished decisively into the bottom corner. 1-2. Birmingham rallied and pressed forwards in numbers, but Worcester's defence was up to the challenge and held them at bay, with Ben making some great stops. Q2.
Worcester continued their dominance in Q3 and their pressure was rewarded when a Finn Syson through ball found Cam Montieth who again found the bottom corner from a hard angle. 2-2.
Worcester then completed the comeback when good pressure from the front line resulted in Tom Griffin winning the ball back and sliding Tristan Webby through. Tristan calmly took it forward and chipped it over the onrushing keeper. 3-2 Q3.
Q4 was a shaky affair with both teams coming close to scoring but the score remained 3-2 at FT.
In very poor conditions, both teams played very well. It was a real challenge to keep the ball under control, but that didn't stop either team trying to play good football. Special mention to Worcester's back line for dealing with the blustery conditions so well. We wish Birmingham RTC all the best for the rest of the season
