WCFC win their second pre-season

The girls had their first ever 11 a side match against Nunnery this weekend. WCFC lined up in a traditional 4-4-2 and soon began to realise the challenges they will face this year.
After a scrappy start, the girls took the lead through Eva who continued where she left off last season. Moments later a thunder strike from Ruby smashed against the crossbar. Birmo and Phoebe F looked threatening on the wings, with their positive approach to the game. Their driving runs and pace were causing Nunnery Wood problems.
Nunnery continued to battle and grew into the game.
End of the 1st quarter 1-0.
The next peroid of play saw 6 changes for WCFC. After another slow start, the girls started to play some lovely football, stringing some passes together. Their lead was extended after Mia scored a well taken goal. Shortly after Mia scored again with a well taken volley which left the goalkeeper stranded. Credit to Nunnery, they continued to battle and attack well. They certainly looked dangerous on the break and scored a goal which they full deserved. Mia completed her hat trick shortly before the end of 2nd quarter.
The 3rd quarter saw a host changes, and also saw the goal of the game. A crisp pass sent Birmo through on goal. After her first touch, she "hit it" and lobbed the keeper, which had both sides coaching staff applauding the finish.
Nunnery did not give up and saw them hit the post from an excellent struck free kick.
The final quarter saw Ruby score the final goal of the game to cpmplete a positive outing for both sides. The game was about getting used to more players on a bigger pitch, as well as getting match fitness.
A special mention to both Ellie and Phoebe T who looked sharp, calm on the ball as well as looking confident taking on their opponents.
Thank you to Nunnery Wood for the hospitality, and we will see you on a few weeks.
Player of the match: Phoebe T for her willingness to be positivie not only going forward, but also defensively.
