Great defensive effort displayed by all the City boys in a match that proved difficult to score in

Worcester City Youth Colts U9s had another tough match away from home when they visited the Bromsgrove Sporting Colts U9s team at Barnsley Hall Playing Fields, Bromsgrove on Saturday 5th October 2019.

Prior to the match, Manager Steve Maitland and Captain Thomas gave a positive speech to the rest of the team.

Team Sheet
Goal Keeper - Ewan
Defenders - Tom, Theo, Max & Joel
Midfielders - Thomas, Ethan, Toby, & Hayden
Forwards - Olly & Nathan

First Half
Both teams started the match well and there were some good displays of passing and defending on show, however it was Bromsgrove who opened the scoring just past the five minute mark.

Not being down hearted, City came back with some positive displays of passing & team work and around the 15 minute mark this resulted in a long range effort from Toby going just wide of the Bromsgrove goal.

Bromsgrove scored again five minutes before half time but again City responded well and in the dying minutes of the half, Toby had another long range shot from the right wing which hit the post of the Bromsgrove goal. This turned out to be the closest that City got to scoring on a day when their defensive prowess was called upon all too often.

Second Half
The half started again with City having to defend for long periods of time which all the boys did magnificently and none of them could be faulted for their lack of effort.

Ewan in goal was called upon time after time and with the help of the rest of the team, managed to repel all Bromsgrove could fire at them with countless long range efforts being rained down on the City goal.

It wasn’t until 40 minutes in that Bromsgrove were able to score again from another long range effort and this was followed by a couple more over the last ten minutes of the match.

The City boys kept going to the final whistle and thoroughly deserved the praise they got after the match from the Manager, families and friends for the effort that they displayed.

Well played Bromsgrove and good luck for the rest of the season. The match was watched by a few dozen respectful spectators who enjoyed an entertaining game of football. After his great performance in the match and during training last week, Toby was awarded the Captains armband for next week’s match. Thanks to all the City parents for their support on match day.
