Match Report by Steve Maitland

After a really promising away performance in the previous week Worcester City Youth Colts were expecting to continue with the effort and hard work for the home game vs WCT Raiders in the Mercian U9 League at Perdiswell Leisure Centre on Saturday 12th October 2019.

Prior to the match, Manager Steve Maitland and Captain Toby gave an encouraging speech to the rest of the team.

Team Sheet
Goal Keeper - Ewan
Defenders - Theo, Max & Joel
Midfielders - Thomas, Ethan, Toby, & Hayden
Forwards - Nathan & Ethan

First Half
The game started in a very open way for both teams with a few chances for each side. WCT scored after the ball had been lost in possession and quickly got another shortly after. City were being out fought by the WCT team.

City lost Toby when he had to go off injured. He has been advised by doctors to miss the next 2 weeks due to ligament damage.

City battled back with Hayden making a last ditch, well timed tackle and with efforts on goal from Ethan and Nathan.

Just before the half time break WCT broke away and scored another goal.

Second Half
The second half was a different proposition with City in the ascendancy, creating a number of good chances and creating much needed pressure with a number of corners in succession.

It was from one of these corners that Thomas crossed the ball to Nathan who finished well at the near post for his first goal of the season.

City were well on top now and were looking like scoring more goals, building pressure from a free kick Nathan smashed the ball home off the crossbar, only for the goal to be disallowed for the wall not retreating far enough. The retaken free kick went wide.

Thomas fed Ethan on a few occasions but he couldn't quite find the right shot to find the goal. WCT broke again after gaining possession to score another goal late on.

City travel to Droitwich next week for their game before the half term break.

After his great performance in the match and during training last week, Nathan was awarded the Captains armband for next week’s match. Thanks to all the City parents for their help on match day.
