Midfielders - Hayden, Ethan, Olly, Max (captain) & Ewan
Forwards - Toby

First Half
The match started well for City and in the 2nd minute they opened the scoring. Toby won the ball from a Vikings player near their left hand corner flag; he passed the ball to Ethan who had run to the edge of the Vikings penalty box. However, Ethan’s path to goal was blocked by a defender and he quickly passed the ball along the edge of the penalty box to Hayden who was in space. Hayden, sensing defenders approaching, let fire with a first time strike which flew like an arrow into the top right corner of the goal (that was Hayden’s first goal of the season).

In the 5th minute, City put together a great set of passes in the opposition half and eventually the ball came to Ethan on the edge of the Viking penalty box, he struck the ball goal ward but it went just over the cross bar.

In the 7th minute, Toby won the ball from a Vikings player midway in the Vikings half; he ran goal wards and shot as he reached the edge of the penalty box. Unfortunately for City, the shot went just wide.

In the 9th minute, a Vikings player managed to pass the ball through the City midfield and the ball was picked up by another Vikings player. He managed to run past a City defender and poked the ball into the City net to level up the game.

It only took a couple of minutes for City to regain the lead when they quickly turned defence into attack in the 11th minute. In the City penalty box, a Vikings player took a close range shot which was brilliantly saved by the City goal keeper Tom. Once the ball was in his hands, Tom was immediately looking to pass the ball out to a City player; he spotted Toby just inside the Vikings half and kicked the ball long for him to pick up. Toby ran with the ball to the Vikings penalty box and then played a ball to Olly who had joined him in the attack. Olly struck a shot goal wards and the ball sneaked into the bottom right hand corner despite the attempts of the Vikings keeper trying to keep it out (that was Olly’s first goal of the season).

In the 16th minute, City extended their lead further. Toby picked up the ball on the left hand side of the pitch and ran down the line being challenged by a Vikings player. As he approached the penalty box, he managed to lose the defender and headed goal wards. Just inside the penalty box, Toby shot at goal and the Vikings keeper managed to block the shot with his hands but had to parry it away due to the pace on the shot. Unfortunately for Vikings, the parried ball fell to a City player, Olly had picked up the ball in the penalty box and managed to get a shot away, this time the Vikings keeper was unable to keep it out (that was Olly’s second goal of the season).

In the 20th minute, the Vikings managed to pull a goal back with a through ball that was picked up on the edge of the City penalty box and struck into the back of the net.

In the final minute of the half, a goalmouth scramble ensued in the City penalty box and the ball eventually fell to a Vikings player who took a close range shot at goal. However, Tom in the City goal pulled off a great save to keep City in the lead going into half time.

Second Half
The second half started with City in the ascendancy again, Max playing in midfield was putting together some great switches of feet as he took the ball around some of the Vikings players. Joel playing in defence was putting in a commanding performance as he almost single handily kept the Vikings forwards at bay.

In the 31st minute, a Vikings player managed to flick the ball around the final City defender just inside the City half. His path to goal was open and he began running at pace with the ball, as he approached the penalty box he sensed a City defender in pursuit and wound up to take a shot. Luckily for City, the defender in pursuit was Theo and he put in a last gasp effort to block the attempted shot and almost certainly saved a goal scoring chance.

In the 33rd minute, City won a corner. Toby took a great corner and the ball fell to Ewan in the box, Ewan struck the ball but unfortunately it went just wide of the post.

In the 35th minute, City won another corner. Again, Toby took a great corner and the ball fell once again to Ewan around the Vikings penalty spot, Ewan attempted to strike the ball but this time his shot was blocked by a Vikings defender.

In the 47th minute, City managed to increase their lead again and scored the final goal of the game. Tom in goal found himself with the ball in his hands; he spotted Toby making a run into the Vikings half and played a long ball up the pitch. Toby controlled the ball and made a quick strike at goal from just outside the penalty box, the ball was destined for the back of the net but the Vikings goal keeper managed to block it with his leg but was unable to keep it under control. Toby rushed in for a follow up strike and this time the ball went in (that was Toby’s first goal of the season).

In the 49th minute, the Vikings had won a free kick mid-way into the City half. The Vikings player taking the kick took it quickly before most of the City players were back into position and his long range effort was destined to drop into the City net in the top corner. However, Tom was alert to the strike and managed to tip the ball over the cross bar with both hands.

All the City players put in great performances in the game but it was Hayden who was awarded man-of-the-match for that brilliant first half goal.
