A tough match for Worcester City FC U10s away from home

Worcester City FC U10s had a tough away match when they visited the Oldbury Park Tigers U10s team at Neel Park on Saturday 26th September 2020.

Managers Laurence Helme and Luke Morris presided over the team.

Team Sheet
Goal Keeper - Ewan
Defenders - Theo & Tom
Midfielders - Hayden (captain), Ethan, Joel, Max, Toby & Luke
Forwards - Olly & Nathan

First Half
The first half started well for both teams, however it was a very cagey and tight contest early on with no real clear cut chances to score for either team.

It wasn’t until the 19th minute that the Tigers team opened the scoring. After a series of one touch passes around the City penalty box, a Tigers player swept in the ball from close range at the far post.

In the 23rd minute, City had their first clear cut chance to score a goal. City won a free kick from the referee for a Tigers player handling the ball mid-way into the Tigers half. Joel took responsibility for taking the free kick and attempted a long range effort at goal, unfortunately for City the ball went narrowly over the bar.

In the 24th minute, the City goal keeper stopped another goal scoring chance for Tigers. A Tigers player slotted a through ball into the City penalty box which resulted in another Tigers player and the City goal keeper Ewan coming together to intercept the ball five yards out from the goal line. It was Ewan who came out on top by using his feet to block the attempted shot from the Tigers attacker and then collecting the ball into his hands.

Second Half
In the 27th minute, Tigers increased their lead in the match. A Tigers corner resulted in a cross that fell to a Tigers player and was struck into the net.

In the 33rd minute, City had another chance to score. Hayden won a ball from a Tigers player near the touch line; he looked up and passed the ball inside to Nathan. Nathen, mid-way in the Tigers half, looked up and saw Toby making a run towards goal. He passed the ball and Toby picked up the ball and ran to the edge of the box before unleashing a shot, the ball eluded the Tigers goal keeper but instead of going into the net, it hit the post and was then gathered up by the goal keeper.

In the 44th minute, the City goal keeper stopped another goal scoring chance for Tigers. A Tigers player took a long range strike at goal which was heading into the top of the net before the City goal keeper Ewan saved it by pushing the ball onto the bar and out of play.

In the 48th minute, City had their final chance to score. City had won a throw in mid-way into the Tigers half; the throw was directed to Toby who picked up the ball and approached the Tigers goal line. He ran a short distance along the goal line and as he entered the penalty box, passed the ball to Luke who had made a run to the Tigers penalty spot. Luke attempted to shoot but his strike was blocked by a Tigers defender, however the ball then fell back to Toby who struck another shot goal wards. Unfortunately for City, the ball struck the post and out of play.

All the City players put in great performances in the game but it was Theo who was awarded man-of-the-match for his brilliant work rate in defence.
