Friendly match after COVID-19 lock down #3

Worcester City FC U10s visited the Wilden Village Youth Wildcats U10s team at the Wilden Village Cricket Club, Stourport on Saturday 10th April 2021 for a friendly match after the return of grassroots football following COVID-19 lock down #3.

Managers Laurence Helme and Luke Morris presided over the team.

Team Sheet
Goal Keeper - Ewan
Defenders - Theo, Tom & Joel
Midfielders - Olly (captain), Ethan, Luke, Toby & Hayden
Forwards - Max & Fraser

First Half
City’s first competitive match in almost four months, due to the COVID-19 epidemic, was a tough encounter initially and the Wildcats applied all of the early pressure.

In the 1st minute, the Wildcats won a free-kick just to the right of the City penalty box. A Wildcats attacker took the resultant free-kick and crossed the ball into the City penalty area, fortunately for City the ball was close enough to the goal for the City goalkeeper Ewan to step out and gather the ball before a Wildcats attacker could pounce on the ball.

In the 4th minute, Wildcats scored their first goal of the match.

In the 7th minute, Wildcats scored their second goal of the match after they had won a corner and the following cross was headed into the net by a Wildcats forward attacking the ball as it passed in front of the goal.

In the 20th minute, Wildcats scored their third goal of the match.

Second Half
The second half started with City applying more pressure to the Wildcats team both on an individual player on player level and also when breaking with the ball to put the Wildcats goal under more threat.

In the 26th minute, City produced a goal scoring chance. Fraser and Max combined with some great passing in the City attack to get the ball into the Wildcats penalty area, Max was bearing down on the goal and was about to unleash a shot when a Wildcats defender made a great recovering run to put him under pressure and the attack was lost.

In the 27th minute, City applied more pressure to the Wildcats team. In the City attack, Fraser was putting himself about all over the pitch and putting Wildcats defenders under pressure which ultimately forced them into making mistakes by giving the ball away.

In the 32nd minute, Wildcats scored their fourth goal of the match.

In the 42nd minute, City produced another goal scoring chance. City had won a free-kick midway into the Wildcats half; Ethan took the kick and passed the ball into the penalty area for Olly to pick up. Olly immediately passed the ball to Theo, who was at the far post, by chipping the ball over a couple of Wildcat defenders. Theo attempted to head the pass goal wards but it went just wide of the post.

In the 47th minute, City produced another goal scoring chance. Fraser picked up the ball in midfield and ran towards the Wildcat penalty area being pursued by a Wildcat defender, as he approached the penalty area he passed the ball to Toby who had made a run into the Wildcats penalty area. Toby took the ball under control and shot at goal but unfortunately for City the ball was saved by the Wildcats gaol keeper.

In the 48th minute, City produced another goal scoring chance. City had won a corner and the pass from the corner flag found Ethan at the corner of the Wildcats penalty area. Ethan passed the ball deep into the penalty area and found Olly, turning quickly on the ball, Olly shot at goal but unfortunately it went in to the side netting of the Wildcats goal.

Well played Wildcats and good luck for the rest of the season. The match was watched by a few dozen respectful spectators who enjoyed a great game of football. All the City players put in great performances in the game but it was Theo and Fraser who were jointly awarded man-of-the-match.

Thanks to all the City parents for their support on match day.
