Midfielders - Hayden, Ethan (captain), Luke, Ewan, Arlo, Toby & Will

First Half
The first half started well for both teams and there wasn’t a lot to choose between them, but on balance of play the City team had the majority of possession.

In the 6th minute, City created a goal scoring chance. City were attacking with Ewan in possession of the ball centrally on the edge of the Colts penalty area, Ewan was being shadowed by a Colts defender and with Luke running towards the box behind him, he back-heeled the ball for Luke to collect. Luke took a few steps into the penalty area and unleashed a shot which was heading for the bottom left corner of the goal, before the Colts goal keeper dived to push it round the post with a great save.

In the 8th minute, Colts opened their scoring account in the match against the balance of play, following a deflected shot at goal from one of the Colts attackers which took the ball past Tom the City goal keeper.

In the 10th minute, City opened their scoring account in the match. City had won a corner and Olly stepped up to take the kick, his cross made it to the middle of the penalty area where it was intercepted by a Colts defender. The defender wasn’t able to control the ball and it ricocheted of them to Joel who was positioned centrally on the edge of the area. Joel controlled the ball and unleashed a shot, which with pin-point accuracy hit the top right corner of the net (that was Joel’s eighth goal of the season).

In the 28th minute, Colts scored another goal in the match when one of their attackers broke through the City defence and slotted the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal past Tom the City goal keeper.

Second Half
City started the second half trying to gain back parity in the match and as the half went on, this lead to more space being available for the Colts attackers to move into.

In the 40th minute, Colts scored another goal in the match when one of their attackers broke through the City defence and slotted the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal past Tom the City goal keeper despite him getting his foot to the ball as he dived but he was unable to keep it out.

In the 47th minute, City scored another goal in the match. City won a free kick for a trip just outside the Colts penalty area and in a central location. Toby stepped up to take the kick and his shot looked destined to go into the top left corner of the Colts goal but instead it struck the corner of the post and cross bar. The ball ricocheted back off the goal to Arlo who was positioned a few metres out from the goal line and he struck a shot low into the middle of the goal (that was Arlo’s fifth goal of the season).

In the 53rd minute, the City defence denied Colts a goal scoring chance. The City team were putting the Colts under increasing pressure to try and get the equalising goal, but this was leaving space at the back as City pushed players forward. A Colts attacker had broken through the City defence from a midfield area and was one-on-one with Tom the City goal keeper, Tom rushed off his line to cut down the angles for the attacker to shoot into. As the attacker approached the D area he took his shot low and to the right but Tom was up to the challenge and just inside the penalty area he was at full stretch as he dived to his left and with both hands pushed the ball out wide and out of danger. This was a fantastic save that almost certainly denied Colts another goal.

Well played Colts and good luck for the rest of the season. The match was watched by a couple of dozen respectful spectators who enjoyed an exciting game of football. All the City players put in great performances in the game but it was Luke who was awarded man-of-the-match.

Thanks to all the City parents for their help and support on match day.
