Honours even in an exciting friendly that saw City U11s come from behind on three occasions

Team Sheet
Goal Keeper – Ewan
Defenders - Joel & Theo
Midfielders - Arlo, Ethan, Will, Toby, Luke & Hayden
Forwards - Fraser, Olly & Max

First Half
It was obvious to see, that the Tigers team were up for this match from the first whistle following the defeat that the City team inflicted on them just before Christmas. They put the City team under early pressure and on occasions the City defence were leaving too much space for the Tigers attackers to have the ball in.

In the 7th minute, Tigers opened their scoring account in the match. The Tigers team won a free-kick on the right wing mid-way into the City half, the cross into the box from the kick fell to a Tigers attacker on the edge of the 6 yard box and they shot into the top left corner of the goal, despite the attempts of Ewan the City goal keeper to keep it out.

In the 11th minute, City created a goal scoring chance. City had won a corner and Max stepped up to take the kick. Max’s cross went through the middle of the penalty area and ended up on the far left corner of the area where Fraser was waiting. Fraser took an immediate shot at goal but it went just inches over the cross bar and out of play.

In the 24th minute, City created a goal scoring chance. Toby had the ball on the left edge of the Tigers penalty area and launched a looping shot at goal. The ball looked destined for the right side of the goal and as it came down, the Tigers keeper got over to that side of the goal. The keeper attempted to catch the ball as it fell but it went through his hands and bounced inches in front of the right post and out of play just inches wide of the post.

In the 26th minute, City created a goal scoring chance. City had won a free-kick on the left wing and mid-way into the Tigers half. Joel stepped up to take the kick and attempted a shot at goal. The ball flew through the air and looked destined to go into the top right corner of the Tigers goal, but the keeper managed to get his hands to the ball and pushed it over the cross bar and out for a corner.

In the 29th minute, City opened their scoring account in the match. City had won a corner and Toby stepped up to take the kick. Toby’s cross into the box landed mid-goal and on the edge of the 6 yard box, Fraser was positioned perfectly to take the ball under his control and shoot into the roof of the net (that was Fraser’s fourth goal of the season and Toby’s third assist).

In the 30th minute, Tigers scored another goal in the match. Almost immediately from the restart, a Tigers attacker was played in from a through ball and managed to score to regain the lead in the match.

Second Half
With the bitter taste still in their mouths of going behind again in the dying seconds of the first half, the City team set about repairing parity in the match.

In the 31st minute, City scored another goal in the match. Toby made an attacking run down the right wing and as he neared the goal line, he cut in towards goal. As he entered the penalty area, he attempted to cross the ball into the centre of the box where a couple of City attackers were waiting to pounce. However, a Tigers defender who was attempting to close down the ball lifted his arm to protect himself from the ball and it struck it. The referee had no choice but to award a penalty kick and Toby stepped up to take it. Toby’s shot went low and to the right leaving the Tigers keeper no chance to get to it (that was Toby’s seventh goal of the season).

In the 35th minute, Tigers scored another goal in the match. Following an attack down the left wing, a ball was played across the pitch to the right side of the City penalty area. From this position, a Tigers attacker struck the ball into the bottom left corner of the City goal.

In the 41st minute, City scored another goal in the match. Olly made an attacking run down the right wing and as he neared the goal line, he cut in towards goal. As he entered the penalty area, he was tripped by a Tigers defender who was trying to win back the ball. The referee had no choice but to award a penalty kick and Olly stepped up to take it. Olly’s shot went high into the roof of the net leaving the Tigers keeper no chance to get to it (that was Olly’s fourth goal of the season).

Well played Tigers and good luck for the rest of the season. The match was watched by a couple of dozen respectful spectators who enjoyed a great game of football. All the City players put in great performances in the game but it was Ethan who was awarded player-of-the-match.

Thanks to all the City parents for their support on match day.
