Stalemate in the first half but City persevered in the second half and put on a great display of football

Worcester City FC U11s visited the Droitwich Spa Dynamos U11s team at Ombersley Way, Droitwich on Saturday 7th May 2022 for a league match.

Managers Laurence Helme and Luke Morris presided over the team.

Team Sheet
Goal Keeper – Tom
Defenders - Joel & Theo
Midfielders - Will, Ethan (captain), Arlo, Toby, Luke & Hayden
Forwards - Ollie & Fraser

First Half
The first half started well for both teams, however it was City who were putting Dynamos under the most pressure and for long periods in this half the majority of play was in the Dynamos half of the pitch. However, the Dynamos team were defending well and there were no real clear cut chances for City to score.

Second Half
City felt like they edge the first half overall and wanted to go out in the second half to make their possession and pressure count.

In the 32nd minute, City opened their scoring account in the match. City had won a corner and Fraser stepped up to take the kick, his cross went across the face of the goal without any player intercepting it and fell the far side of the back post where a Dynamos defender collected it near the goal line. Will quickly put the defender under pressure and won the ball back and without a clear route to goal, he passed the ball back towards the edge of the area where Joel was waiting just inside the area. Joel controlled the ball and was about to shoot at goal when a defender made a tackle and the ball ricocheted off them and out of the area where Theo was waiting. Theo struck at goal from just outside the area with a looping shot which went over a crowded area and fell just inside the left post of the Dynamos goal (that was Theo’s third goal of the season).

In the 57th minute, City created a goal scoring chance. City were attacking with Toby in possession of the ball along the left wing, he went on a run down the wing beating a defender in the process. As Toby neared the corner of the Dynamos penalty area, he crossed the ball into the centre where Ollie had made a run. Ollie controlled the ball near the edge of the penalty area and then shot at goal, but unfortunately his shot went just wide of the right post.

In the 58th minute, City created a goal scoring chance. Dynamos had a goal kick and from the resultant pass out, Ollie intercepted the ball on the edge of the penalty area. Ollie struck an immediate shot at goal but his attempt hit the Dynamos cross bar and then went out of play for another Dynamos goal kick.

In the 59th minute, City scored another goal in the match. Dynamos took the goal kick and again from the resultant pass out, Ollie intercepted the ball on the edge of the penalty area. Ollie struck an immediate shot at goal again but this time the Dynamos goal keeper was able to pull off a great save but was unable to keep hold of the ball, the ball ricocheted off the keeper and dropped perfectly for Toby who had followed in on Ollie’s shot and was a couple of metres out from the goal and he smashed the ball into the roof of the net (that was Toby’s ninth goal of the season).

Well played Dynamos and good luck for the rest of the season. The match was watched by a couple of dozen respectful spectators who enjoyed a great game of football. All the City players put in great performances in the game but it was Theo who was awarded player-of-the-match.

Thanks to all the City parents for their support on match day.
