City U11s start to the season produced a positive performance albeit with a disappointing result

Worcester City FC U11s visited the Catshill Owls U11s team at Catshill Middle School, Bromsgrove on Saturday 11th September 2021 for a league match.

Managers Laurence Helme and Luke Morris presided over the team.

Team Sheet
Goal Keeper - Ewan
Defenders - Theo, Joel & Tom
Midfielders - Arlo (captain), Ethan, Luke, Olly, Hayden & Will
Forwards - Toby, Fraser & Max

First Half
City started the game well and were putting the Owls under pressure early on, however clear cut chances were few and far between.

In the 1st minute, City created a goal scoring chance. City won a corner and Toby stepped up to take the kick, his cross dropped just in front of the goal but an Owls defender was to it first and their attempt to clear the ball was knocked into the air. Fraser was the first player under the ball as it fell back to the ground and he struck a volley goal wards before it landed, unfortunately for City the ball went just over the Owls cross bar.

In the 15th minute, Owls opened their scoring account in the match from a long range free kick.

In the 21st minute, Owls scored another goal in the match from a breakaway counter attack.

In the 22nd minute, City opened their scoring account in the match. City won a free kick, centrally and 5 metres from the edge of the Owls penalty box. Joel took on the kicking duty and placed the ball; his shot at goal flew like an arrow over all the defenders and was heading for the top left corner of the Owls goal. The Owls goal keeper managed to side step across the goal and got both hands to the ball by stretching up but the pace on the ball meant they were unable to keep it out and only manged to guide it into the roof of the net (that was Joel’s third goal of the season).

In the 28th minute, Owls scored another goal in the match from a breakaway counter attack.

Second Half
City were disappointed to be going into the second half of the match trailing as in the first half they had managed to produce lots of pressure and keep the majority of ball possession, this continued throughout the second half but the Owls defence were putting on a great display and they were relying on counter attacks to put the City defence under pressure.

The half ended with no further goals as both teams appeared to cancel each other out with City building pressure to the end, only for the Owls defence to burden the push before breaking away and stretching the City team in the wrong direction.

Well played Owls and good luck for the rest of the season. The match was watched by a couple of dozen respectful spectators who enjoyed a great game of football. All the City players put in great performances in the game but it was Fraser who was awarded man-of-the-match.

Thanks to all the City parents for their support on match day.
