Clinical finishing from the away team was too much for City in a match that was otherwise comparable between them

Worcester City FC U11s hosted the Newtown Sports Juniors Colts U11s team at Perdiswell Leisure Centre, Worcester on Saturday 2nd October 2021 for a league match.

Managers Laurence Helme and Luke Morris presided over the team.

Team Sheet
Goal Keeper – Tom (captain)
Defenders - Joel & Theo
Midfielders - Will, Luke, Ethan, Ewan, Toby, Arlo & Hayden
Forwards - Olly, Fraser & Max

First Half
The match began with Colts on the front foot and they were making all the early chances. The Colts players were quick to put the City players under pressure whenever they had the ball and City were finding it difficult to get into their usual passing rhythm.

In the 4th minute, Colts opened their scoring account in the match from a long range free kick.

In the 6th minute, Colts scored another goal in the match from a fantastic overhead bicycle kick.

In the 13th minute, Colts scored another goal in the match.

In the 29th minute, City created a goal scoring chance. City had won a corner and the ball was crossed into the box, the ball was passed between a couple of City players before it was passed out to Toby who was stood on the right corner of the Colts penalty area. Toby took a couple of steps further towards goal before unleashing his shot which went just wide of the left post.

Second Half
Although the City team went into the half time break trailing, they weren’t being out played by the Colts players but in contrast to City, the Colts attackers were being very clinical with their finishing and this was the difference between the two teams.

In the 35th minute, City opened their scoring account in the match. City were on the attack with Arlo who had the ball on the left corner of the Colts penalty area, Arlo ran along the front edge of the area drawing in defenders as he went and spotting Max in space, passed the ball for him to run on to. Max picked the ball up mid-way into the area on the right side, Max pulled the trigger on a shot that had too much power for the Colts goal keeper to deal with and the ball found the bottom left of the net (that was Max’s first goal of the season and Arlo’s first assist).

In the 36th minute, the City defence denied Crusaders a goal scoring chance. A Colts attacker had the ball around the left corner of the City penalty area and as they ran in, they unleashed a powerful shot which was destined for the top right of the City goal. That was until Tom in the City goal, punched the ball with an outstretched left hand which deflected the ball out of play for a corner.

In the 37th minute, Colts scored another goal in the match from a corner.

In the 40th minute, Colts scored another goal in the match.

In the 42nd minute, Colts scored another goal in the match.

In the 43rd minute, City created a goal scoring chance. Max found himself with the ball in the right hand side of the Colts penalty area; he took a shot as the Colts goal keeper rushed out to cut down on the angles to goal. On this occasion, the Colts shot stopper did an excellent job as Max’s shot was blocked.

In the 47th minute, City created a goal scoring chance. Fraser found himself with the ball mid-way into the Colts half of the pitch, with no other City players far enough advanced to support him, Fraser attempted to take on all the Colts defenders by himself. As defender after defender attempted to win the ball back, Fraser dribbled and skipped his way through numerous challenges and eventually made his way into the Colts penalty area. Just inside the area, Fraser took his shot at goal but unfortunately it went just wide of the right post, otherwise this would have been a great individual goal.

In the 48th minute, City scored another goal in the match. After a trip in the Colts penalty area, City were awarded a penalty kick. Fraser took on the responsibility for taking the spot kick and his shot was aimed at the left side of the goal, a metre or so off the ground. The Colts goal keeper was on excellent form in the match and he dove the right way and managed to block the shot but was unable to keep hold of the ball, Toby reacted first to the shot and ran in to chip the rebound over the Colts keeper and into the top of the net (that was Toby’s first goal of the season).

In the 52nd minute, Colts scored another goal in the match.

Well played Colts and good luck for the rest of season. The match was watched by a couple of dozen respectful spectators who enjoyed a great game of football. All the City players put in great performances in the game but it was Fraser and Arlo who were jointly awarded man-of-the-match.

Thanks to all the City parents for their help and support on match day.
