Great performance from the team, topped off with some top drawer goals worthy of Messi himself!

Worcester City FC U11s hosted the Oldbury Park Tigers Bengals U11s team at Perdiswell Leisure Centre, Worcester on Saturday 20th November 2021 for a league match.

Managers Laurence Helme and Luke Morris presided over the team.

Team Sheet
Goal Keeper – Ewan (captain)
Defenders - Theo, Tom & Ethan
Midfielders - Hayden, Luke, Olly, Toby & Arlo
Forwards - Fraser

First Half
In the 13th minute, City created a goal scoring chance. Toby was attacking with the ball from the left wing and as he made a diagonal run into the Bengals penalty area, he made a low shot at goal going for the bottom right corner. Unfortunately for City, the ball went inches wide of the right goal post.

In the 19th minute, City opened their scoring account in the match. The Bengals team had won a throw in near the half way line, the resultant throw fell to Tom in the City defence and he cleared the ball forward to Theo who was on the half way line. Theo chipped the ball forward through the air and Fraser got his head to the ball and knocked it onto Olly who was in a forward position. Olly was being marked by a Bengals defender but managed to run onto the ball and ran towards goal with the defender in pursuit, the Bengals goal keeper sensing the danger came off his line to close down the angles for Olly to shoot. Just outside the penalty area and with his options to go low with a shot being limited by the goalie, Olly decided to chip the ball over the rushing out goal keeper and the weight and pace of the ball was perfect and the ball fell into the empty net (that was Olly’s second goal of the season and Fraser’s first assist).

In the 28th minute, Bengals opened their scoring account in the match.

Second Half
In the 40th minute, City created a goal scoring chance. City had won a corner and Toby stepped up to take the kick. His cross went across the front of the goal and the Bengals defenders got to the ball first and attempted to clear it, the ball didn’t make it very far and it pin balled around the box a few times before another defender managed to get a clearance out of the box. This clearance fell to Olly just outside the area and he took a shot at goal, but it went low and just wide of the left goal post.

In the 42nd minute, City created a goal scoring chance. City had won a corner and Toby stepped up to take the kick. His cross went across the front of the goal and a Bengals defender got to the ball first and attempted to control it but the ball ricocheted off him and fell to Fraser a few metres out from the goal line. With a number of Bengals defenders around him, Fraser took a first time shot when the ball came to him but unfortunately his shot went just over the cross bar.

In the 49th minute, City scored another goal in the match. Arlo was on the ball inside the centre circle and with the majority of the Bengals team in front of him; he decided to go on a run towards goal. As he made his way to goal, in turn, one after another of the Bengals players attempted to tackle him and take the ball but Arlo just dropped his shoulder and switched the ball from one side to the other and it appeared like the ball was tethered to his feet. He took the ball around four of the Bengals players and as he got past the last defender he was approaching the edge of the Bengals penalty area. At this point the Bengals goal keeper started to rush out and close the angles to goal, but topping off the individual goal of the season so far, Arlo just struck the ball past him and into the back of the net (that was Arlo’s second goal of the season).

In the 50th minute, the City defence denied Bengals a goal scoring chance. A Bengals attacker was on the ball and cutting into the City penalty area from the left wing. Once inside the area, the player struck a shot at goal that was heading for the top right corner of the City goal until Ewan, the City goal keeper, got both hands to the ball and pushed it wide past the right post and out for a corner.

This was a great performance from the City team and the goals scored by the City team were both worthy of winning any match in the league.

Well played Bengals and good luck for the rest of season. The match was watched by a couple of dozen respectful spectators who enjoyed a great game of football. All the City players put in great performances in the game but it was Arlo who was awarded man-of-the-match.

Thanks to all the City parents for their help and support on match day.
