Match report by Dave Francis

The big question coming in to today’s game was whether the boys could replicate the football and commitment from last week.

It is fair to say that the pre game warm up left a lot to be desired and that came across in the first few minutes where we came under the cosh. But fair play to the boys they slowly settled into the game and took the lead after 7 mins (Ben). This was doubled shortly after (Tom). The two goal advantage allowed us to settle into our passing game and we grew in confidence for the remainder of the third.

The second third was a bit more attritional with neither side dominating or creating many chances. We struggled to get out of our half through our insistence to keep on trying to play ourselves out of trouble - exactly what we want the boys to do! A battling debut goal for Austin the only score. Just as important was an excellent save from Evan which, if it had gone in, could really have altered the course of the game.

The final third saw all of the hard work the boys did in pre season really pay off. The opposition couldn’t handle our our pressing and attacking, and good work from the irrepressible Tom set up a number of our attacks. Our fitness levels were really excellent.

A quick fire hat trick from Ryan and goals from Ben and Tom gave the score like a slightly flattering feel. That said we played well in parts, defended resolutely and attacked with gusto!

GOLD
Gold today went to a player who we spoke to after 2 mins to remind him what we wanted from him. From that moment on he was exceptional, holding the ball up to bring his teammates into the game and powering past defenders as if they weren’t there. Well done Tom Rebbeck, fully deserved.

SILVER
Ben was his usual combative self in the middle of the pitch and won countless headers and broke their attack down regularly. But it was his attacking play which won him the award today with some excellent link up play and shots.

BRONZE
Awarded to Jack for his defensive duties. Despite having his shirt pulled off his back in numerous occasions, he battled well for possession and is making that position his own.

Some other notable shout outs go to Liam for another commanding performance, Ryan for his well taken goals and Evan for some important saves.
