Match report by Dave Francis

When we play on the front foot, utilise the space on the pitch and look to play quick, slick passes we really are a force to be reckoned with. The key for the remaining games of the season will be to reach those high performance levels for all of the game, and not just in patches!

Like in previous weeks it took us some time to truly get into the game and whilst we weren’t under any great pressure, we failed to put our stamp on the game. There were some bright moments, especially the energy and hold up play of Austin up front, but we didn’t quite settle. That said we took the lead from a well taken goal from the industrious Evan K following a team press. We allowed them back into the game following a defensive mixup caused by the way we want the boys to play. The pass into the corner, the lack of options and the turn into trouble culminated in the equaliser. The first third ended all square.

Into the second and the boys were working out where the space was out on the pitch (suitably nudged by Ian J). The intensity also increased, and it was from the closing down that Evan K scored his second. He put the defence under pressure and scored with aplomb!

There was a sign of things to come following a swift move stated from Ev, who played a simple pass into Ben under pressure. Ben didn’t panic and played a simple pass which set the wheels in motion for a beautifully created chance for Evan K after two or three excellent passes.

Into the final third and the confidence gained from the free flowing football from the second third seemed to galvanise the boys. Our third came from some excellent hold up play again from Austin, laying a simple pass for Caleb who pulled the trigger, the rebound falling kindly for Ben to extend the lead.

We were on top and playing some good football. However Ev M was always alert and pulled off some good saves. Tom put the icing on the cake with a well taken goal to make it four and then a weaving run drawing in the foul for the penalty which he duly dispatched.

A special mention to their coach today who restored some faith in the system following a few difficult weeks.

GOLD

We’ve been asking a lot of this lad for a few weeks now. The warmup typified his performance that followed, with heads up football, bringing his teammates into play, working hard across the line and being an all round nuisance for the opposition. Well done Austin!

SILVER

The Evan K we all know and love today. A handful for defenders, took his chances brilliantly and worked hard for his teammates.

BRONZE

A lot of our good attacks stemmed from this lad breaking up opposition attacks, playing simple passes (apart from the 30 yard outside of the boot beauty) and managing the all important transition. Well done Isaac.

See you all Monday
