A game against Halesowen Town is always going to be a physical encounter, and whatever they’re feeding their boys in the Black country it is definitely working.
We started well, weathering some early pressure, and slowly grew into the game. We took the lead from a well taken goal from the excellent Caleb. We worked hard across the pitch, keeping our shape well, defending corners and playing some excellent counter attacking football. This stemmed from a combination of excellent distribution and decision making from Ev Masters in goal. We had opportunities to extend the lead, but at the same time defended heroically.
The second third saw some of the changes we made disrupt our fluidity. They were also not used to to losing and seemed to increase their intensity and clawed their way back in to the game, deservedly so. They took the lead at the end of the second third, but the game had become niggly.
I’m pleased our lads held their own. A special mention here to Ryan who was immense in the middle of the pitch, using his strength and always taking a step forward.
Into the final third, the boys acquitted themselves well again, and the intensity of the first third returned. Some poor parental behaviours on the side resulted in an increase in the levels of frustration on the pitch.
A consolation effort from Evan K was again challenged, before a defensive lapse allowed them to score.
Really pleased with large parts of the display today.
Caleb took his goal well, was a threat going forward and defensively sound. He always wanted the ball.
Evan Masters distribution and concentration was exactly what we’ve been demanding from him in recent weeks. He started the counter attacks with his vision.
Liam gave a solid display at the back and was a calming influence throughout.
Really pleased with the boys application today.
