Match report by Dave Francis

*It’s been coming*

With the promise of more game time in training should the team meet their goals of fluid football, the stakes were high as we faced Birmingham St George’s RTC for the second time this season. The boys delivered and in some style!

We couldn’t have started better, with the tempo, work rate and passing a joy to behold. One such example was a free flowing passage of play where every player on the team touched the ball as we moved swiftly from front to back. We were unlucky not to take the lead from that move, but the pressure meant it was only a matter of time and from the following passage of play Ben (who eventually scored a hat trick) put us deservedly in front.

With our tails up, and Tom setting the standard for work rate with four assists in a wide right position we scored a further six more in the first third (including a hat trick from Austin - of 4 in total) with a solitary reply. Whilst we were scoring good goals, one of the most pleasing aspects of the first third was the close control of our boys. Our replacements interrupted our flow a little bit we were excellent and played some joyous stuff to watch.

Unsurprisingly we were quite lethargic at the start of the second third and we could have paid the price had it not been for two excellent saves by Ev M. Both were at the feet of the attacker and was exactly what we have been asking him to do. Well done Ev.

We scored a further five in the second period with notable contributions from a towering header by Will culminating in Tom finishing brilliantly (one of his hat trick) and Ryan scoring from a tight angle (one of his hat trick). They scored one in this period but we were dominant. To the oppositions credit they never gave up and played some good football at times.

Into the final third and we scored a further 6 without reply. The pick of the bunch from the right foot of the impressive Caleb.

We have been threatening to really turn over a team for some time and today we really clicked into gear. It’s our biggest ever margin of victory with the pleasing aspect being we kept trying to play the right way when it could quite easily have turned into a personal glory crusade. Dylan typified this when he unselfishly set up a goal when he could have gone himself, especially as he hasn’t scored this season.

Some excellent performances all round, including Liam who has always performed at a high level in the left wing back position, Austin who Was much more than his goals and Ev M who is listening to the feedback of the coaches. In truth the awards were difficult given how dominant we were.

GOLD

At the heart of everything that was good, won everything in the middle, took on board our feedback of wanting more of an attacking threat from him and a complete centre midfield performance from Ben today.

SILVER

Outstanding distribution, an eye for a pass which turned defence into attack, together with his unselfish play consistently, well done Dylan.

BRONZE

Played out of position to begin with, but with an eye for an assist added to his usual tenacity meant the midfield or defence of the opposition just couldn’t handle him. Well played Tom.

We will face sterner opposition but you can only beat what is in front of you. Quite frankly our football at times was breathtakingly good!

Wish me luck in inputting the scorer and the minute of each goal into the system!
